Biography

Origin

Dr. Joel Cochin was a male human who lived in the modern age where he came to be a prominent scientist on Earth. He came to make periodic discoveries leading to him leading to him receiving 3 Nobel Prize awards in 1983. By this point, he was noted to lived outside of Star City. (Justice League of America v1 #224)

In his arrogance, Cochin believed that the world had been overrun by those he deemed inferior, so he assumed the costumed identity of Paragon and sought to make a dramatic change by ridding the entire planet of all "inferior" beings. This action invariably brought him into conflict with the Justice League of America. At first, Paragon proved every bit their superior, imitating manoeuvres such as Black Canary's judo training or Firestorm's molecular reconstruction abilities. The League determined though that he could not duplicate artificially created abilities such as the energy of a Green Lantern Ring or the aerokinesis of the Red Tornado android. Utilizing this strategy, the League succeeded in defeating Paragon. (Justice League of America v1 #224)

He later came to escape from the Garrett Federal Penitentiary where he planned to get his revenge on the Justice League and kill them off one by one. To accomplish this, he looked to duplicate the powers of Superman and honed in on his Kryptonian energy signature where he kidnapped him in his civilian identity. He was unable to discern Superman's secret identity but did manage to keep him captive but he managed to escape. The Man of Steel looked to avoid empowering Paragon by travelling to the isolated Fortress of Solitude. However, Earth by this point was visited by a group of Daxamites with Paragon instead targeting them in order to copy their powers. (Superman v1 #674)

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

Overview

Personality and attributes

Upon gaining powers, he came to assume the name of Paragon for himself. (Justice League of America v1 #224)

Cochin had a superiority complex that stemmed from him being a genius. This led to him being snobbish though he himself said that he was simply superior to other people. (Justice League of America v1 #224)

He saw criminals as being less than animals without any vestige of human decency. According to him, the depths of their kind never ceased to astound him. To such people, he considered himself to be their better and that he was to be their death. He did not believe low-life criminals deserved to live and looked to kill them thinking he was correcting nature's mistake. (Justice League of America v1 #224)

Powers and abilities

With this, he was able to gain the physical and mental abilities of anyone within a certain range around him. He was not restricted to a single power and in fact could use multiple abilities so long as the people with these abilities were in range. (Justice League of America v1 #224)
