History
Pre-Crisis
Space Sector 2814 was the designation given to a region of space in the universe as dictated to by the Guardians of the Universe. as designated by the Guardians of the Universe, is the sector of the universe that includes Earth, its solar system, and Ysmault.
Post-Crisis
Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.
Around 20,000 or so years ago, the Guardians of the Universe had been observing the planet Mars whose dominant lifeform were the Burning Martians that were barbaric and ruthless species. They deemed the race a threat to order and as they were only a few centuries away from space travel the Oans decided to intervene. The Guardians defeated the Burning but did not desire to commit genocide but instead resorted to mass genetic manipulation as they saw great potential in the Martians. They instilled within them a genetic block that caused them to fire fear to prevent them from asexually reproducing as this caused the Burning Martians to spawn. In the aftermath, the Martian civilization developed into the Green Martian and White Martian civilizations. (JLA v1 #87)

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.
