Biography

Sherry Birkin (Japanese: シェリー・バーキン, Hepburn: Sherī Bākin) was born in 1986 as the daughter to scientists William Birkin and Annette Birkin. Her parents were noted scientists that worked for the Umbrella Corporation where their specialty was in the field of creating biological weapons for the company at its Arklay Laboratory. The pair were heavily devoted and invested in their research with their busy work schedules meaning that they were never around whilst their daughter Sherry was growing up.

In 1995, the Birkins were transferred to a newly-constructed underground laboratory in Raccoon City to work on a new biological weapon called the G-Virus. However, in 1998, William refused to hand the finished virus to Umbrella. Umbrella's Special Forces Unit was sent in to forcefully retrieve the G-Virus. After the struggle, in which Birkin was fatally injured, Birkin however injected himself with the G-Virus and pursued his assailants, eventually killing all but one of them. During this incident, several vials containing the T-Virus broke and the infection was spread over the city by rats soon after.

With Raccoon City infested with zombies, Sherry was told by her mother to seek refuge in the Raccoon City Police Department. There, she met with another survivor, Claire Redfield, who was searching for her missing brother. With the precinct itself now infected with mutants and creatures, Sherry sought Claire's protection and the two began to look for a way out of the city.

However, as they made their escape, the two were pursued by one of Umbrella's Tyrants, who was sent to retrieve a hidden G-Virus sample within Sherry's pendant (put there by her mother), as well Sherry's own father, now a monster transformed by the G-Virus. The two eventually found themselves in Umbrella's secret underground lab.

When Claire was separated from Sherry at one point, Claire met with Sherry's mother, Annette. With Sherry in danger, Claire turned to Annette for help. Although Claire eventually saved Sherry, Annette did not survive.

After finding an escape train within the lab, Claire and Sherry managed to leave the lab along with police officer Leon S. Kennedy. However, the three were chased by the mutated Birkin. This caused the train to initiate an anti-biohazard self-destruct mechanism. With Leon and Claire distracting Birkin, Sherry managed to pull the train's emergency brake, allowing them to get far away from the train and leave Birkin to die in the explosion.

After escaping Raccoon City, Leon and Sherry were later picked up by official authorities and Sherry was given in to government custody. She awaits to see Claire again someday, wearing the pink vest she got from her as a reminder. Albert Wesker and the Organization had been keeping surveillance of Sherry with their spies inside the government in order to find out any secrets she may be hiding.

Wesker's death in 2009 led Sherry being offered the chance to be free of her protective custody if she were to gain employment as one of their agents. Having grown up increasingly aware of the effects of bioterrorism, Sherry agreed to the offer and trained to be an agent of the U.S. federal government. In December 2012, Sherry served in the Division of Security Operations that was a government organisation built to investigate and combat bioterrorism. Following the outbreak of the C-Virus, Agent Birkin was assigned the task of recovering Jake Muller who was believed to possess a special blood type that could create a cure. This saw her being deployed to a warzone within the Eastern-European republic of Edonia where Muller was fighting as a mercenary. Sherry located Jake where she asks him for a sample of his blood and explained that it could be used to create a vaccine for the outbreak. He agreed but on the condition that he be paid 50 million dollars in exchange. Later, the pair came to be pursued by a B.O.W named the Ustanak that attempted to kill them. They managed to temporarily defeat him before meeting Chris and Pier, along with other BSAA agents. The group came to working together with Chris, Jake, Sherry, and Piers able to defeat the huge B.O.W. Chris then offered Sherry and Jake a helicopter to use as transport. Before Jake and Sherry depart, Chris asked Jake if they had met before though Muller did not answer where instead he joked that all 'jarheads' looked the same to him.
