The Tekunin are a cybernetic clan of ninja's that features in Mortal Kombat.

History

Original Timeline

The Tekunin were a clan of cyborg ninjas that were created in Earthrealm. Their origin was traced to the Lin Kuei where the Grandmaster sought to improve his warriors by turning them into cyborgs. This saw the creation of the Cyber Initiative whereby their assassins were transformed in a process that deprived the subjects of their souls. Among those that were converted in this manner included Sektor and Cyrax. However, not all Lin Kuei agreed with this approach but the Grandmaster sought to have these warriors forcibly transformed. Sub-Zero rebelled against the clan and refused cyber-transformation alongside Smoke with the two attempting to escape. Though Sub-Zero escaped, his friend and comrade Smoke was captured by the Lin Kuei where he was transformed into a cyborg warrior. These Lin Kuei warriors participated in the events of Outworld invasion of Earthrealm. In the aftermath, Sektor sought to claim leadership of the Lin Kuei and become the Grandmaster. This saw him attempting to take the Dragon Medallion that designated the leader of the Lin Kuei. However, Sub-Zero opposed him and defeated him though Sektor managed to flee. In the aftermath, he escaped to Japan where he sought to establish his own clan of warriors that were created in his own image with these becoming the Tekunin. By this point, the clan operated on the flying Tekunin Warship and were pursued by the Special Forces. Around this time, they encountered and captured the warrior known as Taven. Sektor had the Edenian demigod tortured for information on his secrets when their warship was attacked by the Special Forces. In the chaos that followed, the warship was destroyed but Sektor managed to escape just prior to initiating the ships self-destruct sequence.

Reboot Timeline

In the Triborg ending, it was shown that the cyborg used the Special Forces facilities to recreate his cyborg brethren from memory patterns in his servers but as he perceived the Lin Kuei name was tarnished he decided to forge his own clan that were the Tekunin.

Overview

Members of the Tekunin were humanoid cyborgs that were based on advanced technology from the Cyber Initiative. Each were created from warriors of the Lin Kuei that were subjected to the program that tuned them into mechanical combatants.
