  • Real World: March 12. Germany occupies and annexes Austria- this becomes known as the Anschluss.
  • Real World: July 3. Veterans from both sides of the American Civil War meet for the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.
  • Real World: September 29. British, French and Italian leaders agree to Germany's demands of ownership over the Sudetenland region of Czechoslovakia. Returning to England after signing the so-called Munich Agreement, U.K. Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain declares "peace in our time."
  • Real World: November 9. Nazi soldiers and sympathizers attack and wreck Jewish businesses in Germany, in what becomes known as Kristallnacht.
