Gamma Base is a place that features in Marvel Comics.

History

Gamma Base was a military installation created as part of an initiative started by General Thunderbolt Ross in combating the Hulk. The proposal was made to the U.S. government with Washington agreeing with the plan for the headquarters of a mobile combat force. (Incredible Hulk v1 #145)

Gamma Base

The Intelligencia came to commandeer Gamma Base in secret and disguised it as a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility that was staffed by L.M.D.s made to look at military personnel. During the conclusion of World War Hulk, the defeated Hulk was taken by the L.M.D.s in the form of agents that captured the creature and took him to Gamma Base. Once there, they siphoned the energy from the Hulk for their experiments that they used to transform Thunderbolt Ross into the Red Hulk. (Hulk v2 #23)

Banner came to commandeer the Gamma Base and tailored it into a prison to hold the Red Hulk. (Hulk v2 #24)

Shadow Base

With the old Gamma Base compromised, Major General Reginald Fortean used the discretionary budgets of the various U.S. military branches to establish a new headquarters that was named Shadow Base. (Immortal Hulk v1 #21) This served as the headquarters for General Fortean who led the efforts in capturing the Hulk. (Immortal Hulk v1 #6)

After the Hulk's escape, Shadow Base decided to consult with the captive Leader in finding a means of killing their quarry. However, Stern killed the guards and went on his own mission to eliminate his arch-enemy the Hulk. Operatives from the base pursued him where they found that the Leader had arranged an encounter between the Hulk and Weapon H with the goal of eliminating the pair. To achieve that end, he had infected Weapon H with a gamma-virus that was intended to pass onto the Hulk to weaken him allowing for him to be killed. (Hulkverines v1 #1) Shadow Bases remote facility FN34 was attacked by the Leader and his ally Dr. Alba who used the site's resources as part of their plot against the Hulk and Wolverine. (Hulkverines v1 #2)

With the body of Rick Jones and Emil Blonsky, Shadow Base came to merge the two create a new incarnation of the Abomination to serve as a living weapon against the Hulk. Despite warnings against doing so, General Fortean deployed the creature in a civilian populated area where it killed numerous people whilst it targeted the Hulk with its special acids able to neutralise his healing factor. Agents were also deployed into the field to ensure no witnesses reported the incident but they were stopped by Jackie McGee and Red She-Hulk in her Harpy form. (Immortal Hulk v1 #19) During the fight, the Hulk regenerated after being killed whilst the Red She-Hulk helped in the defeat of the Abomination where they freed Rick Jones from the body. Shadow Base was thwarted in their attempts at capturing their target and the personnel ordered to retreat when Gamma Flight arrived at the scene to investigate the incident at the town. (Immortal Hulk v1 #20) Using the Redeemer Armor, General Fortean personally teleported onto Alpha Flight's station in order to recover the husk of the Abomination whereupon he bonded with it. (Immortal Hulk v1 #21)

Ultimately, Fortean's actions caused his own men to turn against him and declare him rogue after he killed two of his own soldiers. This allowed the Hulk the opportunity to kill him where Joe Fixit murdered Fortean thus ensuring he would not resurrect again. With General Fortean dead, Dr. McGowan took charge of Shadow Base as per protocol with the Devil Hulk intending to use the black ops budget of the organization for his purposes as he subsumed control of the site. (Immortal Hulk v1 #24) In the aftermath, the organisation became splintered with many of its assets abandoning it with only the purely scientific initiative under Dr. McGowan remaining behind who decided to work for the Hulk. Banner then publicly revealed the existence of Shadow Base to the world and declared war against humanity. He stated that he intended to dismantle forces that he believed were profiting through the destruction of the planet. Thus, he made the Roxxon Energy Corporation his first target of a Hulk rampage. Overview

In appearance, the base was a military installation that was located in the heart of the American heartland. It was also known as Project: Greenskin and as Greenskin Base. The goal of the Base was to devote all its resources entirely on capturing, imprisoning and potentially killing the Hulk. (Incredible Hulk v1 #145) Their ties to the U.S. military meant that they had considerable financial resources at their disposal. (Immortal Hulk v1 #9)

A special room was made for the Monitors that were a group of individuals who were given implants as they monitored data networks. This included surveillance, information feeds and other such sources that they filtered in order to get intelligence on their targets. The implants could be reversed allowing a person to return to normal but they had a set team as Monitors. (Immortal Hulk v1 #6)

A piece of equipment used by their field operatives was a Master Comm that was constantly running a decrypt program of every electronic device within range. (Hulkverines v1 #2) It later came into possession of the Bannerman Gene-Enhancement Package or Hulk Plug-In that had been developed by S.H.I.E.L.D., improved by A.I.M. and perfected by Shadow Base. (Immortal Hulk v1 #9)

They maintained a number of vehicles such as the War Wagons that bristled with armaments and weaponry designed to fight the Hulk. (Immortal hulk v1 #20)

In the Nevadan Gamma Base, Bruce Banner designed a chamber called the Womb that could negate gravity and sound making it a perfect meditation space. It forced a person to examine their own psyche and find no means of distracting their mind through physical interaction with the environment. (Hulk v2 #25) Shadow Base maintained a number of remote facilities spread across the country for its various operatives with some holding detention facilities. (Hulkverines v1 #1) These included:
