Failsafe was a robotic construct that was created by Batman and whose origins were traced to an incident where his countermeasure protocols for dealing with the Justice League were stolen by Ra's al Ghul. These plans were used in a plot against his superpowered teammates in the League. Afterwards, Batman created a secondary personality in his mind to protect him from psychological attacks to break him with this resulting in the Batman of Zur-En-Arrh persona. This personality looked to create a countermeasure against Batman in case the hero ever went rogue and killed others with this resulting in the development of the android. The existence of the Failsafe was not known to Batman where the robotic construct was left in a dormant pod within the Batcave. (Batman v3 #127)

Robin managed to take Batman to the Batmobile but the android managed to catch up with them until Nightwing managed to slow him down and attack him with the rest of the Batman Family, effort that bore no fruits as Failsafe once again defeated all the heroes with no effort. After stealing Signal's mask, he hacked it and retrieved the location of their new Batcave.
