History
Origin
Parademons were demonic sentries from the planet Apokolips. (New Gods v1 #1)
During a raid on New Genesis, Steppenwolf came to kill the New God Avia whilst her love Izaya survived. This led to him swearing revenge and a great terrible war was waged between New Genesis and Apokolips. Parademons were noted to had been involved in this conflict where in one incidence their lines were broken by New Genesis's Monitors who staged an assault Apokolip's surface. The intensity of the conflict grew into a techno-cosmic war that shook the universe until Izaya came to lament how he had become as terrifying as his enemy. He looked to stop the war and forge a peace that involved the exchange of sons between him and Darkseid thus ending the conflict between their worlds. (New Gods v1 #7)
Post-Crisis
Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. Parademons
Darkseid engaged in a secret plot to turn Earth's populace against its superheroes where he dispatched Glorious Godfrey for this task. At first, he made considerable successes in turning the people against their heroes but they instead rallied behind their symbols. In desperation, Godfrey used a stargate to bring forth an army of Darkseid's soldier elite to slay the Earth's heroes. One of their number even managed to snatch the golden Helm of Nabu from Doctor Fate thus removing much of Kent Nelson's power until he regained it. The remaining Parademons came to be defeated by the superheroes who came to force them back through the portal back to Apokolips thus thwarting Darkseid's plan. (Legends v1 #6)
Post-Flashpoint
Following the Flashpoint, a new history was created with a different timeline of events. Parademons were the advance forces in the armies of Apokolips, created from reformatted genetic material gleaned either from the living or dead remains of native species pertaining to parallel worlds razed throughout the Multiverse. (Earth 2: World's End v1 #2) Initial assaults saw them capturing every living being in sight taking them to their nearby conversion facilities, there using new god technologies the cultivation of captured victims occurs. Repurposing them into new Parademons programmed to serve and enforce the will of lord Darkseid. (Justice League v2 #4)
An army of Parademons came to invade the planet Earth where they continued their directive of finding inhabited worlds to convert the organic beings living on them into new members of Darkseid's army. This brought them into conflict with its superheroes who came together for the first time to repel the invaders. (Justice League v2 #4)
After the death of Darkseid, his horde of Parademons left Apokolips and took a Mother Box with them as they sought a new master to guide them. This saw them target the greatest source of energy in the cosmos with this being Oa where they decimated the Green Lantern Corps. Once there, they attached their Mother Box to the Central Power Battery but the energy of willpower that it generated lacked direction. It required a sentient to wield it leading to the Parademons placing Green Lanterns inside it to become their god by accepting the machine. Each Green Lantern refused and were in turn transformed into a Parademon leaving only Hal Jordan the only Green Lantern that had not been converted in this manner as he sought to stop the creatures. (Justice League - Darkseid War: Green Lantern v1 #1)
Within the Ghost Sector, Darkseid sought to reforge a new Apokolips following the destruction of the Source Wall and used the Sepulkore as a means of achieving it. This involved him using its power to transform living beings into a new host to serve him that he called Para-Angels that were to be his army. (Justice League: Odyssey v1 #12)
Overview
Parademons were said to be the sentries of Apokolips. (New Gods v1 #1) They claimed that they were fast learners and were able to pick up languages after a short time. (Azrael v1 #34)
They had the capacity to convert shape and form for better and quicker mobility when aerial adaptation was inoperable. (Justice League v2 #1)
When captured, they were capable of triggering a self-destruct sequence that they could use to eliminate their captors. (Justice League v2 #1)
These soldiers of Darkseid were among the most fierce and most relentless in the universe. (Wonder Woman v2 #103)
A class of Parademons were berserkers that could be made through the reanimated of corpses that were converted into new warriors. (Earth 2: World's End v1 #2)
