History

A Dreil warrior.

The Dreil were an ancient race whose origins have long been forgotten by the race itself something that does not concern the species much as they travel the stars in order to propagate their kind. In their wake, thousands of worlds, which were once inhabited planets, became barren husks of their former selves. It as noted that in this time the Great Hives of the Dreil had existed.

During their expansion, it was noted that they came to encounter humanity who was another expansionist species. The Dreil's expansion into human territory and threatening their 'Homeworld' led to mankind looking to eliminate the insectoid race. The seed from a Dreil colony came to land on the world of Natrolis. Thus the insectoid race looked to begin their cycle anew as they aimed to claim the resources of the world and claim yet another victim planet. However, they faced opposition from both the native Sorin and the Human Colonists who not only wanted to claim the planet for themselves but stop the expansion of the Dreil.

Overview

In appearance, the Dreil were an insectoid species that came in a variety of forms.

The Dreil Hive itself consists of thousands of voracious creatures who follow a swarm-like intelligence with no concern over the death of a single member of their kind. The race were mindlessly efficient in their goal with many workers, soldiers and other specialized castes being developed by the race. Their 'specialization' can make certain castes appear as completely different species but they are all unified in their purpoe by the telepathic will of the Dreil Queen.

The Dreil Queens are the guiding intelligence of the race who are powerful psychics that are so strong that it allows them to sense the echoes of life from neighbouring solar systems. Once they have taken hold on a world, they mentally guide their armies who consume all organic living matter on the world. This results in those colonies infected by the race to be sucked dry of all life. Once this is done, the Dreil focus their efforts in producing a massive powerful egg launcher. Then the hive colony simply dies as part of their natural lifespan with the death of the Dreil Queen resulting in an eggship, with her embryos, being launched into space to a life bearing world that was sensed earlier.

Thus, the Dreil life cycle continues with worlds being destroyed in their wake to feed their insatiable appetites with a new world. The primary struggle was to grow their Hives to become the dominant force their species were a long time ago.

For construction, the Dreil mostly used material like wood and crystal that had been digested for the purpose of using it as the base for building. Their architecture was that of a nest-based hive culture with translucent panels covering walls of their Hives and each building being built for purpose. Structures such as the Hive Mounds were huge buildings giving the impression of the grand stature of their occupants and emitted confidence to the busy workers below it. Tough acidic resin covered buildings to ensure that the Hive and its buildings were strong against attack whilst allowing access to mass numbers of workers for repair.

Cells were a basic building made by the Dreil that served as living quarters for drones. They were made of a thin version of the Dreil resin allowing them to be built easily and took only a small amount of space. After the land around the Hive was stripped of resources, the Dreil had to explore further afield to collect supplies. To ease such collection, open remote points were used called Larder Hives that were also made of a thin resin.

Notes
