The Order of Purity were a splinter sect that separated from the [[Sacred Order of Saint Dumas]]. Despite its separation, it lacked the financial assets and the political clout of its parent organization. Its members desired to see their religion protected and thus crafted the [[Suit of Sorrows]] which was a chainmail tabard formed from the armor of one hundred violent Crusaders. This was with the intention of it being worn by their champion though all of them went mad either due to a blood debt to its original owners or because of a weight on their psyche. At some point, the Suit was stolen by [[Ra's al Ghul]] who later gave it to his daughter [[Talia al Ghul]] who in turn gave it to [[Bruce Wayne]].

Following the [[Black Glove]]'s assault on [[Batman]], the Order of Purity managed to breach the [[Batcave]] and retrieve the Suit of Sorrows. This was with the intention of creating a new champion to don the mantle of [[Azrael]] which later turned out to be [[Michael Lane]].
  
 
Hans Herlicht of the Order was later seen working for Ra's Al Ghul and began bombarding solar radiation into the metahuman known as Fireball. This was with the intention of filling his body with intense energy that he would eventually release at a specified time and bring ruin to Gotham City. History

The Order of Purity were a splinter sect that separated from the Sacred Order of Saint Dumas. Despite its separation, it lacked the financial assets and the political clout of its parent organization. Its members desired to see their religion protected and thus crafted the Suit of Sorrows which was a chainmail tabard formed from the armor of one hundred violent Crusaders. This was with the intention of it being worn by their champion though all of them went mad either due to a blood debt to its original owners or because of a weight on their psyche.
