Biography
Jason Macendale
After a humiliating defeat at the hands of Spider-Man and the Green Goblin, the Hobgoblin Macendale sought greater power to destroy all his enemies At this time, the city was being attacked by Demons due to the events of the Inferno. Several of the creatures attacked Macendale who destroyed them and followed the Demons to their master N'astirh. The demon lord wanted to be entertained by the human with Macendale his own soul in exchange for power. N'astirh responded with a laugh at the quality of the mortals soul but did admit that this made him laugh. Thus, he decided to grant the humans wish and transformed him into a partly demonic being. - Jason Macendale was created by Tom DeFalco and Steve Ditko where he first appeared as Jack O'Lantern in Machine Man v1 #19 (February, 1981) and later as the Hobgoblin in Amazing Spider-Man v1 #289 (June, 1987).
