The Freedom Fighters were called in, and their liaison Agent Aaron explained that Diablo had only killed disgraced officers, but they were determined to bring him to justice. They caught Diablo in the middle of a fight with his archenemy Vorpal. El Diablo had no intention of returning to jail, and made an uneasy alliance with Vorpal to fight them. History
Pre-Crisis
The Freedom Fighters were a team of superheroes that existed on Earth-X. On their Earth, World War II affected the world where during the global conflict the U.S. President had a fatal heart attack in 1944. This resulted in the governmental balance of power going wrong thus affecting the two nations. It resulted in delays that allowed Germany to develop the atom bomb at the same time as the U.S.A. at the time. Neither side was then willing to deploy the weapons leading to conventional warfare being waged leading to many more lives being spent in the war. Five years ago, the Fuhrer's scientists came to develop a mind-control ray that allowed them to take control the populace of the world. Only a small band of superheroes proved to be immune to the rays effects where they banded together into an underground strike force led by Uncle Sam that opposed the Nazi's with them being known as the Freedom Fighters. (Justice League of America v1 #107)
Post-Crisis

Alternate Versions
- In Superman/Batman v1 #15 (2005), the timeline was altered by the actions of the Legion of Super-Villains who sought to change history by raising Superman and Batman. On this world, Wonder Woman was guided by the Fates who informed her that history had been altered with them guiding her in correcting the timeline. To that end, she found Uncle Sam and together the pair went about assembling the Freedom Fighters to fight the tyranny of Superman and Batman.
