Lota the Panther Woman was a beast person created by Dr. Moreau by surgically evolving a panther through vivisection. He considered her his most successful - and most human - creation. All that remained of her former animal self were her claw-like fingernails. Aside from the Sayer of the Law, Lota was the most intelligent of the beast people, capable of problem solving and deductive reasoning.
Dr. Moreau hoped she would mate with Edward Parker and produce children. Indeed, Lota did fall in love with the stranger, however he was engaged to Ruth Thomas and so nothing came of his romance with Lota. Especially after Parker discovered Lota's claws and realize she was one of Moreau's creations - when he had previously taken her to be a normal human. Lota herself attracted the most unwanted attentions of her fellow beast man Ouran.
During the beast people's revolt against Moreau, Lota joined Parker, Ruth and Montgomery in fleeing the island. However Ouran followed them. Doubling back to defend her comrades, Lota grappled with Ouran. The two ultimately killed each other.
