Biography

Drake Mallard

The champion of St. Canard, Darkwing Duck began pursuing a superheroic life from childhood. A fan of comic books, young Drake Mallard was inspired by his meeting with a masked duck (actually his future self, which he later forgot about) to become a masked crimefighter named "Darkwing Drakie." By the time he was in his late teens, he officially became Darkwing Duck for the first time to stop his insane classmate Megavolt. In the years afterward, he set up a base in the Audubon Bay Bridge, and developed glory-hog tendencies; as a result of the latter, despite his (sometimes accidentally) successful superheroics, he was viewed as an annoyance by local authorities.

One day, he became involved in protecting young Gosalyn Waddlemeyer from the villainous Taurus Bulba. With the help of Launchpad McQuack, Darkwing was able to save her and stop Bulba. Thereafter, Darkwing adopted Gosalyn and resumed using his civilian identity for her benefit. Although he never lost his love of attention (or his occasional ineptitude), the assistance of Launchpad, Gosalyn and her friend Honker Muddlefoot made him a better crimefighter.

Darkwing has since battled many villains, most notably Megavolt, Bushroot, Quackerjack, Moliarty, Tuskerninni, and his evil twin, Negaduck. He has also worked with spy organization SHUSH (much to the consternation of senior agent Grizzlikof) against FOWL, and has had an on-again-off-again relationship with Morgana Macawber. Darkwing was reluctantly a member of the Justice Ducks, which included his sort-of rival Gizmoduck.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Darkwing Duck was a short male anthropomorphic mallard duck with white feathers, a large forehead, orange bill and webbed feet.

Darkwing operated as the shadowy protector of St. Canard who served as its guardian that hunted criminals like a phantom in the darkness.

He was noted to use two characteristic catchphrases as Darkwing Duck that included:

"I am the terror that flaps in the night"
"Let's get dangerous"

Drake Mallard would come to take in Gosalyn where he came to adopt the orphaned granddaughter of Professor Waddlemeyer with her becoming known as Gosalyn Mallard.

Powers and abilities

Darkwing Duck has no special powers, but he does have some training in martial arts, specifically Quack-Fu (but he's not as skilled as he thinks he is). Darkwing's equipment and paraphenalia include the Thunderquack (designed by Launchpad) and his favorite weapon, the Gas Gun (which he uses to make his dramatic entrances).

His main weapon of choice in his crime-fighting escapades is his gas gun, which functions much like a grenade launcher. It fires grenades with a variety of different gases (smoke bombs, laughing gas, tear gas, etc.), as well as some more direct offensive weapons (including boxing gloves and cartoon bombs). It also has a retractable line and grappling hook for transportation purposes, and can fire other random objects that are loaded in its barrel. He invariably employs various other weapons and gadgets though many do not work as intended. His main forms of transportation are the Thunderquack (a small airplane-like vehicle shaped like Darkwing's head that was built and is piloted by Launchpad) and his motorcycle, called the Ratcatcher (a name shared with a Batman villain, maintaining the theme of superhero homages and parodies).

At one point, Darkwing Duck was affected by Negaduck's Particle Accelerator resulting in him temporarily gaining super speed, which caused him to age rapidly the more he used it, which could be reversed by running in reverse.
