Vulcan was a planet located within the Alpha Quadrant of the Milky Way galaxy.
Early in its history, Vulcan had an aggressive, colonizing period, much like Earth but even more barbaric. (TOS: Balance of Terror)
On the eve of the Dominion War in late 2373, Vulcan's strategic importance for the Federation was on par with worlds like Andor, Berengaria, and Earth.
