During the events of One year Later, Amparo adopts her niece Brenda. In addition to her personal life she works on capturing as many magic using teens as she can. She then transports these teens to a holding facility called Warehouse 13. When she sends one of her agents, Diviner to kidnap Alina, a very magical baby, she catches the attention of Blue Beetle.

They faced opposition from the [[Brotherhood of Evil]] who similarly sought to acquire the artefact leading to a battle between the two sides with the Scarab bonding to a bystander in the process. While her crew is on their mission La Dama is throwing a Quinceanera for her niece Brenda at her mansion. The party is interrupted when the Blue Beetle shows up with Paco. Beetle tries to explain what's happening but instead throws up on La Dama's shoes and flies away. La Dama then learns that her team has failed and kills Coyote and uses his blood to see where the Beetle has gone.

Then when Paco is taken to the hospital for the wound caused by Jamie, La Dama is there to confront the teen. She tricks him into going back to her office where she uses a magic rug made out of "Ritually blinded orphan hair" to bind him in the room. Jamie is able to escape but the magic in the rug is damaged and the spell makes the house along with La Dama disappear.

Intergang later hired Giganta to attack La Dama in an effort to eliminate her so that they could take her territory. The attack on her home led to her identity being exposed as being La Dama which shocked and angered Brenda who left the home. (Blue Beetle v8 #19) She began to stay at the Reyes residence with La Dama arriving at the premises attempting to bring her niece back into her life. (Blue Beetle v8 #22) Amparo participated in the battle against the Reach when they attacked El Paso in an effort to eliminate the threat posed by the Blue Beetle. She brought in her subordinates to help defend the town with the use of Intergang weapons they had stolen. (Blue Beetle v8 #24)

Personality and attributes

Among criminals, she was said to had been legit for so long that no one knew what she looked like. (Blue Beetle v8 #5)

It was said that having armed men made her feel more comfortable. (Blue Beetle v8 #22)

Such was her reputation and shadowy nature that she was considered an urban legend amongst street gangs. (Blue Beetle v8 #5)

She cared deeply for her niece Brenda and tried very hard to be her Tia Amparo. (Blue Beetle v8 #22) This was to the point that she reduced her violent crimes to almost nothing when Brenda began staying at her house. (Blue Beetle v8 #19) Brenda meanwhile was unaware that her aunt was the dreaded crime lord La Dama who wanted to prevent her niece from learning this information. (Blue Beetle v8 #6)

Powers and abilities

It was shown that she possessed a large amount of knowledge on magic and controlled all magic research in a thousand mile radius. (Blue Beetle v8 #6)

One of her bases of operations was a remote facility out in the desert called Warehouse 13. Occult shielding was placed over the structure to make it invisible to magical beings preventing them from being able to sense or scry it. (Blue Beetle v8 #6)

Notes

  • La Dama was created by Keith Giffen, John Rogers and Cully Hamner where she made her first appearance in Blue Beetle v8 #3 (July, 2006).

In other media

Television

  • In Catwoman: Hunted, La Dama appeared in the setting of the anime film where she was voiced by actress Jacqueline Obradors. She was shown as being a noted crime lord capable of using magic who was the head of the Central American cartel. This led to her joining the ranks of Leviathan alongside a number of other crime bosses that joined forces. Their meeting though came to be interrupted by Catwoman and Batwoman who worked to fight the crime lords. La Dama used hr magic against them but was ultimately gagged preventing her from directing her monsters who dissipated as a result. She and the others later came to be arrested by the authorities who arrived on the scene.
