Biography
Bakushaku Chouno (Japanese: 蝶野 爆爵, Hepburn: Chōuno Bakushaku) was a Japanese male who lived over a century ago during a time when new science and technologies were developing around the world. Among these new fields was the art of alchemy which was dismissed by most academics though Bakushaku devoted his life in learning its secrets. Despite his desire and spending a fortune into his work, he found the limits of his research which had taken most of his life with him having no breakthrough. He had discovered the existence of Homunculi and Kakugane but determined that without further information that this was a dead end to his work. However, he came upon a wounded man named Victor Powered who was a traitorous member of the alchemist warriors whereby the two decided to join forces. In exchange for Bakushaku's support in healing him, Victor would reveal everything he knew about alchemy with Chouno agreeing to the proposal. Thus, over the years he devoted his life to healing Victor whilst from their interaction he gained alchemical knowledge to finish his research. It was noted that he had family and descendants but at some point transformed himself into a Homunculi whereupon he abandoned his human identity and took the name of Dr. Butterfly (Dr．バタフライ Dr. Batafurai) with him forming the L.X.E. organization centred in Ginsei City. One night he takes a walk in the park with Moonface when a young Shusui Hayasaka attempts to mug him, threatening him with a broken piece of glass, demanding that he give him all of his money, food and some medicine. Moonface grabs Shusui by the hair, he is impressed with Shusui's fierce eyes and tells him to come along with him as he has no other place to go. Shusui tells him that he isn't going anywhere without his sister, Butterfly says that he can bring her as well but she will need to have eyes like him or else she will have a hard time surviving.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Bakushaku Chouno originally was a stately middle-aged man with very sharp looking eyes and medium length grey hair parted in the middle. He also has a grey butterfly shaped mustache. Normally he wears a long cream suit jacket, underneath the jacket he wears a yellow ruffled suit with an orange, black and blue butterfly shaped bow tie. He also wears cream trousers, and a pair of white gloves and shoes. When he fought Papillon he revealed a different outfit underneath his normal one. This is rather risque outfit almost identical to that of Papillon's consisting of a tight white suit with a corset-like front and puffy, black and white diamond shaped shoulder sleeves, and a disturbingly scant crotch region that has a black butterfly pattern. In addition to this he wears a grey cape lined at the bottom with black butterfly patterns with a fluffy collar.
He was noted for being the the great-great grandfather of Koushaku Chouno.
Powers and abilities
Originally, Bakushaku was an ordinary human being with no inherent special abilities. Renowned as a genius by his descendants, both as a human and a Homunculus he displayed incredible intellect. He had a vast knowledge of Alchemy having discovered the homunculi and Kakugane. His research along with Victor's help has led him to create many Homunculi, both animal, plant and humanoid types and the restoration flask. He uses his knowledge in battle, thinking of clever ways to outsmart his enemies.
