Biography

Member of the Crimson Dawn.

Qi'ra was a female human who was born a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. She was noted to had grown up to be an orphaned street thief that lived on the shipbuilding world of Corellia. During this time, she came to meet Han were the pair became lovers where they sought a better life for themselves. In these years, she came to operate as a member of the White Worms who were headed by a crime lord named Lady Proxima. At one point, Han and Qi'ra were sent on a job to seal some valuable coaxium that was a potent fuel source. Secretly, they kept the coaxium for themselves as they intended to use it to bribe their way off-world and had to escape Lady Proxima's henchmen. They managed to reach the spaceport but Qi'ra was apprehended by the criminal gang before she could escape alongside Han. Before being taken away, she urged him to go on without her where he came to vow to return for her. Qi'ra remained on Corellia for sometime until she attracted the attention of the powerful crime lord Dryden Vos of the Crimson Dawn syndicate. He decided to purchase her and took her on where he began to train her to be a member of his organization. In this time, she came to be trained in Teräs Käsi by Vos and rose to the position of Lieutenant in the syndicate.

At some point during her employment with Crimson Dawn, Qi'ra found herself being pursued by bounty hunter droid IG-88 on Ord Mantell. Qi'ra fell into a trap laid by IG-88 and his temporary partner, Weequay pirate Hondo Ohnaka. The two were planning on turning Qi'ra in for a bounty, but she was able to turn them against one another, giving her a chance to remove her bonds and capture them both, with intent to turn them in for bounties.

Three years later, she was aboard Dryden's mobile headquarters on the First Light that had landed on Vandor. Vos held a party in this time when he was met by his old associate Tobias Beckett who was a noted smuggler. The man had been on a job to steal coaxium for the Crimson Dawn but failed on the mission. Qi'ra came to be shocked to find Han working for Beckett with the two being reunited after all this time. Han had said that he had been working this job in the hope of earning enough credits to free Qi'ra where she came to reveal how Dryden had rescued her on Corellia. However, Vos was displeased at the mission's failure and was prepared to kill Beckett along with his crew though Han suggested that they could steal coaxium from another source. Qi'ra then jumped in with the suggestion of taking unrefined coaxium from Kessel though the problem was finding a refinery to process it before it went volatile. She knew of Lando Calrissian's ship the Millennium Falcon but that they lacked a pilot capable of performing the necessary transport with Han volunteering himself for the task. As such, Dryden Vos agreed to spare Beckett, Han and Chewbacca's lives if they succeeded in their task but warned them of the consequences of failure. For this mission, Qi'ra accompanied the crew in order to ensure that they succeeded in their task.

The theft was ultimately a success but Han and Qi'ra become sympathetic to the cause of the rebels who are trying to prevent the syndicates and the Galactic Empire from gaining greater domination over the galaxy. They attempt to trick Vos, but the double-crossing Beckett has already alerted the crime lord to their plan. Caught aiding Han, Qi'ra tells Dryden she will prove her loyalty to him by sacrificing something she loves, and advances on Han. She betrays and kills Vos instead, and sends Han after Beckett. Once alone, Qi'ra contacts Vos's superior, Maul, to inform him of the mission's failure and claim Vos's position within the syndicate; she blames the death of Vos on Beckett. Qi'ra then abandons Han and leaves for Dathomir to meet with Maul as he commands her.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Qi'ra was a Corellian human female with moderately short brown hair that was usually kept in a ponytail, blue eyes, and light skin. After joining Vos, he would come to brand Qi'ra's forearm and the back of her neck with the Crimson Dawn symbol.

Qi'ra was a very complex woman. When she was younger, she was hopeful that she could escape the criminal life and strove for something better. But as she grew older, she realized that because of all the bad things she had done, there was no escaping the criminal life. Despite having grown up on the streets, she was able to adapt to a lusher lifestyle and fit in with Crimson Dawn. Having known Han for so many years, she believed she may have been the one person who could see him for who he truly was, thinking he was "the good guy." She was a fighter and had been trained in combat by Vos, which helped her survive.

According to her, everyone came to serve somebody else with this being the way of the galaxy.

A survivor at heart, she left Solo and continued to work for Crimson Dawn under Maul.

Powers and abilities

She came to be trained in the martial arts Teräs Käsi by Dryden Vos.

It was shown that she personally made use of a Monlitzer S-195 blaster pistol that was a lightweight double-barreled weapon with a hinged assembly that allowed for quick loading of reactant gas capsules or power plugs.

In combat Qi'ra wielded two electro-sword weapons which were capable of emitting electrical charges which, upon contact, allowed them to effectively repel and clashing with a lightsaber without being damaged. The electro-swords could also unite the end of their hilts to create a larger double-bladed melee weapon or when separated release a series of small grenades from the hilt.

Upon joining Crimson Dawn, she came to rise to the position of Lieutenant to its leader. This was until his death whereupon she took over leadership of the crime syndicate.

  • In Entertainment Weekly (2018), Clarke would say in an interview about the character, "The beautiful thing about this Han Solo story is it's highlighting all of the most brilliant aspects of Han Solo the character and characterizing those aspects in characters that he meets on his journey to becoming who he is...You are seeing all of these different elements that make up who he is through the people and the interactions and the relationships just as we all do as human beings. We are simply the embodiment of our experiences...You see the beginnings of him, this loveable rogue. You get it fine-tuned throughout these relationships, and Qi'ra is one of those relationships that has an impact on him as a character...The goal is that the shadow of Qi'ra is there in Han as a character that we know. This girl is another texture that makes up who he is when we first meet him."
