Biography
Origin
Alison Blaire was born to Carter and Katherine Blaire in the Long Island suburb of Gardendale, New York. Alison's parents had a tense relationship, because her father was a stoic law student, while her mother was a free-spirited entertainer. Ultimately, this led to Katherine walking out on Carter while Alison was still a toddler, leaving Carter to raise Alison with the help of his mother, Bella Blaire. Katherine's leaving had a profound effect on Carter, who had kept the shameful secret of Katherine from Alison most of her life. As Alison entered adolescence and developed dreams of becoming a singer, her father, now a judge, became increasingly intolerant of the idea. Instead, Carter forced Alison to choose a life path similar to his own; Alison would become an academic star and continue on a path to law school. Alison's grandmother was more sympathetic to young Alison and encouraged her to explore her creative energies. (Dazzler v1 #21) However, Alison manifested her mutant abilities while performing at a junior high school dance, blinding all in attendance save herself. For years, Alison kept her powers a secret from those closest to her, further alienating herself from her father. By the time she reached university, Alison began to explore both her powers and her musical ability. Alison crafted her own performing suit, accessories, and named herself 'The Dazzler'. It was at this moment that Alison decided to abandon her father's dream. While at her graduation ceremony, Alison informed Carter that she would not be attending the law school he had selected for her and instead would pursue a life as a singer, without her father's blessing or financial support. Alternate Versions
- In Amazing X-Men v1 #1 (1995), an alternate version of Dazzler appeared in the Age of Apocalypse reality that was designated Earth-295 in the Multiverse. The months leading up to Apocalypse's first strike against America were the happiest of young Allison Blair's life. She had released her first album and had become a pop sensation. Bitter about her lost dreams of being a singer, Dazzler no longer cared about preserving her voice. She became a heavy smoker. During her time with the X-Men, Dazzler established a relationship with Exodus, the newest X-Man. Magneto sent a group led by Quicksilver to help mutant-hunting Sentinels evacuate humans across the Atlantic to Europe. Part of this mission was to reprogram the Sentinels to recognize the X-Men as allies, but this was reversed by a group of Apocalypse's elite shock troops, the Brotherhood of Chaos, led by the Horseman of Apocalypse known as Abyss. Dazzler aided her fellow X-Men in defeating the Brotherhood and reversing their reprogramming of the Sentinels so that they could assist in the evacuation.
- In X-Treme X-Men v2 #7 (2012), an alternate version of Dazzler appeared in the reality designated as Earth-13027 in the Multiverse. When the zombie apocalypse occurred, Alison stepped up and took lead of the human resistance. While on patrol, her base at Danvers Air Force Base was attacked and her comrades were turned into zombies. After hours of fighting her former comrades, Captain Blaire gave up just before being recruited by Charles Xavier to his Multiversal X-Force.
- In All-New X-Men v1 #17 (2013), an alternate version of Dazzler was shown in a reality set 25 years in the future that was designated as Earth-13729 in the Multiverse. She had been a pop-star, an X-Man and an agent for S.H.I.E.L.D. when she was approached by the X-Men Beast, Xorn, and Rogue, who asked her to run for the Presidency of the United States of America. Winning the election, she started her victory speech in front of the White House, but was blasted to death while the sky was invaded by a horde of demons, killing several X-Men and civilians.
- In A-Force v2 #5 (2016), an alternate version of Dazzler was shown as an inhabitant of the Battleworld reality that was designated as Earth-15513 in the Multiverse. This version was chosen to be a member of the Thor Corps on the planet and enforced the law of God-Emperor Doom with her being given her own mystical hammer called Lightbringer. As a member of the paramilitary organization, she was charged with policing Battleworld and enforcing the will of God Emperor Doom. Dazzler Thor later appears in the mainstream Earth-616 universe, after coming through a multi-dimensional portal and joins A-Force in their fight against the Countess, a dragon who came through the same portal. After Countess is defeated, Dazzler Thor succumbs to the effects that this universe's Terrigen Mists had on her system and vanishes.
