History

Pan Pacific Defense Corps (P.P.D.C.) was a military organisation that consisted of all the nations around Earth in the protection of their world. It was created in the early 21st century following the emergence of the Kaiju from the Breach. During their emergence, the creatures led to wide-scale devastation in a number of cities including San Francisco, Manila, Cabo and Sydney. This forced the international community to come together on how to best respond to this threat with a conference held at Seoul, South Korea on September 15, 2014. During the meeting, Dr. Jasper Schoenfeld presented his idea in combating the Kaiju where he used the event as an opportunity to propose the creation of giant Mecha known as Jaegers. This promoted the various countries putting aside their differences with them unifying under the United Nations in working together in building these weapons. Thus, in late 2014, the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was founded where it served to field the Jaeger Program and fund the efforts of Dr. Schoenfeld along with Dr. Caitlin Lightcap in building the first six Jaegers that were to be manned by the military organisation.

Afterwards, the Defense Corps began to suffer from a sudden string of defeats at the hands of he Kaiju following the Anchorage attack in February 2020. This was because they were unable to anticipate the Kaiju's attacks as they were not aware of the evolving intelligence of the creatures. The spike in attacks resulted in the destruction of over 26 Jaegers. In response, the United Nations responded by beginning construction on a colossal coastal wall that would cut off the Pacific from the rest of the world with similar defenses being made in the Atlantic. The focus on this initiative resulted in the Jaeger Program being gradually phased out with 7 Shatterdomes being shutdown whilst the surviving Rangers being retired from active combat duty.

During the Kaiju War, the Defense Corps promoted their cause, asking for the support of the public through propaganda. They provided those who volunteered for their cause with jobs in the construction of Jaegers and a chance to enlist in the Jaeger Academy. The Defense Corps also advocated rationing to the populace of the Pacific in order to maintain financial stability. Their methods of promotion also included prompting Rangers to make public appearances, raising them to the status of worldwide celebrities. The mass merchandising of both the Kaiju and the Jaegers through action figures and apparel acted as a boon to the Defense Corps, while at the same time trivializing their circumstances. For the next ten years, the Jaeger Program would rise to a seemingly permanent status of success and victory against the Kaiju. However, they would cease production of the Jaegers in 2019 with the Mark-5 series.

Unaware of the growing strength and intelligence of the the Kaiju, the Defense Corps were unable to anticipate the sudden string of victories won by the Kaiju in the years following the Anchorage attack in February 2020. The alarming spike in Kaiju attacks led to the destruction of over twenty-six Jaegers by 2025. The United Nations began working on a colossal coastal wall that would cut the Pacific off from the rest of the world and worked to construct these defenses for the Atlantic. The Jaeger Program was gradually phased out; seven Shatterdomes were shut down and any surviving Rangers were retired from active combat duty by late 2024. The funds once used to support the Jaeger program were instead funneled toward the Anti-Kaiju Wall, as the United Nations were confident that the wall would be a more effective defense against the Kaiju than the Jaegers ever were.

Overview

In appearance, the Pan Pacific Defense Corps was a military organisation that was formed in response to attacks from Kaiju.

There were a number of divisions in the Corps that included:

  • K-Science : a branch consisting of individuals in charge of the detection and analysis of Kaiju.
  • J-Tech : a branch consisting of individuals in charge of the maintenance of the Jaeger systems and robotics.

Leadership of the organization was held by an individual holding the rank of Marshal who headed all operations regarding Jaeger deployments and served as a liaison with the United Nations.

Two ranks within the hierarchy of the organization were those of Officers and Ranger. Over twelve positions were created under the rank of officer, providing individuals of various expertise to aid in the study of Kaiju biology and behavior, while others, like J-Tech, centralized its focus on combat and supportive positions required to rear academy hopefuls trying become Jaeger pilots and the safeguard of the populace in cities attacked by the Kaiju. Trainees were required to undergo a long and incredibly rigorous semester of training before being potentially recruited as Rangers

Jaeger pilots were referred to by their rank of Ranger.

They maintained the Kaiju Archives that contained a list of designations for Kaiju and the ones slain in battle.

It was known to liaise with corporate bodies such as Shao Industries that produced equipment and machines for them. The Corps had a stand-off relationship with the Kaiju Cultists who opposed the organisation for taking creatures they believed to be divine beings.

Vehicles used by the corps included:

  • V-50 Jumphawk : a VTOL twin rotor aircraft used in Jaeger deployment.

The organisation maintained a number of facilities throughout the world. Chief among these were the Shatterdomes that served as factories for the construction, repair and maintenance of Jaegers with them also serving as sites for training of pilots along with conducting experiments.
