El Gaucho is a male comic superhero who features in DC Comics.

Biography

Santiago Vargas

As Agent 33, he came to approach Kathy Kane and looked to recruit her to Spyral only for her to reject the offer. (Batman Incorporated v1 #4)

At some point, he gained an enemy in El Sombrero with the villain being a lunatic that designed and created fantastic, artistic death traps. Another enemy he gained was an assassin named Scorpiana who used robotic blue scorpions as her calling card. (Batman v1 #668)

Around 12 years ago, Mister Mayhew called a gathering of the Club of Heroes with Guacho attending though the Batman did not attend the meeting. (Batman v1 #668)

He returned to the Club of Heroes for their reunion where he came to Gotham City with the rest of the group to deal with the Black Glove at the end of their campaign against Batman. Upon arriving, the group rescued Robin from an attack by the Club of Villains and Gaucho eliminated the danger posed by Pierrot Lunaire. (Batman v1 #681)

Later on, he worked with Batman as they broke the illegal operation of super-criminal El Papagayo in Argentine. The villains operation was exposed by a spy in Cimarron of the Super Malon hero team who was looking for information on a group of missing children. El Papagayo came to cripple Cimarron but then looked to escape the two masked vigilantes pursuing him where they wanted to know the identity of his employer. It was then that he was killed by a robotic scorpion where the only clue left behind was from his parrot which said the word "Oroboro". (Batman Incorporated v1 #3)

As an agent of Spyral, he came to operate under the name of Agent 33. (Batman Incorporated v1 #4) Later on, he would become a masked vigilante superhero where he came to be known as the Guacho. (Detective Comics v1 #215)

Vargas was noted for being extravagant, irresponsible and yet enigmatic. (Batman Incorporated v1 #3)

Santiago was regarded as the most eligible bachelor in Buenos Aires who played host to many supermillionaires in his villas. (Batman Incorporated v1 #3)

He ha said that he was proud of his work in Spyral. (Batman Incorporated v1 #6)

He had been sent to recruit Kathy Kane into Spyral where he came to love her. It was said that a day had not gone by that he had not regretted her death. (Batman Incorporated v1 #4)

Powers and abilities

According to him, he had trained his ears to be super-sensitive. (Batman Incorporated Special v1 #1)

He was noted for being a user of the bolo and was an expert of its use. (Detective Comics v1 #215)

Santiago was a provider of miraculous racehorses to princes, sheikhs and potentates. (Batman Incorporated v1 #3)

The Guacho of Argentina was noted for being a member of the Batmen of All Nations. (Detective Comics v1 #215)

It was noted that in the past that he had been a member of the intelligence agency known as Spyral. (Batman Incorporated v1 #4) As a member of Spyral, he came to had sworn an oath of secrecy and could not speak of his time in the agency. (Batman Incorporated v1 #5)

  • El Gaucho was created by Edmond Hamilton and Sheldon Moldoff where he made his first appearance in Detective Comics v1 #215 (January, 1955).
