Biography

Gideon was a male human who was an inhabitant of the galaxy far, far away where he came to be a senior figure of the Galactic Empire where he came to serve as an officer in the Imperial Security Bureau. In time, he came to rise to the position of Moff within the empire by the time of the Battle of Endor. After the fall of Mandalore, he was noted to come into possession of the famed Darksaber that was a Lightsaber of great cultural significance to the Mandalorians.

The Moff decided to personally take matters into his own hands and led a detachment of troops to Nevarro. He came to have his forces surround the cantina when he contacted the Client who assured him that he had the Child. However, Gideon disputed this claim and instead had his Death Troopers open fire on the cantina which killed the Client and his guards at the scene.

An Imperial freighter carrying supplies from the oceanic moon of Trask came to contact Gideon to inform him that their vessel was under siege from Mandalorian warriors led by Bo-Katan Kryze. She had been targeting Imperial cargo ships as she sought to find and reclaim the Darksaber for herself. Moff Gideon deemed the vessel doomed and ordered the captain to destroy the ship along with everyone on it. Despite Imperial efforts, they were stopped by the Mandalorians but the ship's captain still committed suicide rather than allow himself to be taken in out of fear of Gideon.

Tracking the bounty hunter, his light cruiser arrived at Tython where Djarin had taken the child in order for him to seek out a Jedi through the Force. Platoons of Stormtroopers were deployed via transports to the planet's surface to acquire the target but they faced opposition from Boba Fett and Fennec Shand who came to aid the Mandalorian bounty hunter. To prevent Djarin from escaping, the Moff had his light cruiser fire on his ship the Razor Crest that was utterly destroyed in the process. Despite this, the Stormtroopers failed in their task where their numbers were decimated by their foes and the Imperial forces were forced to retreat but none survived Fett's attack. Gideon then deployed a squad of Dark Troopers from the high atmosphere where they managed to successfully recover the child and the cruiser left Tython. The Moff then went to check on the child who was detained in a prison cell where a pair o Stormtroopers were struggling to keep Grogu under control as he was using the Force to knock them aside. Despite the attack on his troopers, Gideon was simply amused and watched as the child overexerted himself and became exhausted in the process. This allowed for the troopers to easily place chains on the child and making him more manageable.

After his defeat, Gideon had been turned over to the New Republic to be tried for his crimes. Din Djarin's subsequent acquisition of the Darksaber led to him being declared a candidate for the position of the new leader of the Mandalorians.

Notes

  • Moff Gideon was created by Jon Favreau where he was portrayed by actor Giancarlo Esposito with him making his first appearance in The Mandalorian.
  • In an interview at TheWarp, Esposito said on the character, "This guy is a fierce guy. You have a great amount of expectations surrounding his appearance because we don't know whether he's good or bad. The universe has fallen. Someone is trying to put it back together. Is it an organization? Is it a government? What is it? Is it a militia? Who is this person, who seems to know everything about everyone? We have a bit of a mysterious character, but once you see him and you get to know him, you'll be intrigued by how he wields his power."
