History

The Flora Colossus were a plant-based species of tree-like beings that were native to the world of Planet X.

It became the capital of their colonies that were known as the Branch Worlds. (Guardians of the Galaxy v3 #14) Their kind had an empire that took many worlds through fear and conquest where they abducted natives to conduct scientific experiments on them. (Groot v1 #6) Years ago, a lone Leviathon came upon Planet X where it burnt much of the world before escaping and created a collective fear of the being who they called Furnax. (Guardians of the Galaxy v4 #1.MU)

A Flora colossus was among the monsters inhabiting the Monster Isle when Magik and Shadowcat went there to rescue Bo. (Uncanny X-Men v3 #33)

The Asgardian trickster Loki once approached the Gardener of the Elders of the Universe where he highlighted how flesh based life had destroyed the plants he had seeded across many worlds. This led to an imbalance in the mind of the Gardener who decided that the only solution was to purge it of all life and he decided to utilise the Flora Colossi to achieve this feat. (All-New Guardians of the Galaxy v1 #10) This resulted in the Gardener teleporting to the Stohlad Ring in order to attack Rocket and Groot. During their fight, Groot sacrificed himself to allow his friend to escape whilst his body was destroyed by the Gardener who took the splinters with the intention of creating a new race to bring balance to the cosmos. (All-New Guardians of the Galaxy v1 #9) A grove of new Flora Colossi were thus grown where they developed into vicious beings that killed other lifeforms. (All-New Guardians of the Galaxy v1 #4) As they matured, the Gardener directed them to a populated world where he once seeded it with plant life but had now become overrun with cities and developments. (All-New Guardians of the Galaxy v1 #6)

Overview

They were regarded as flora-organisms that resembled a tree. (Annihilation: Conquest - Starlord v1 #1)

Light was the source of photonic knowledge for their kind (Guardians of the Galaxy v3 #14)

Key figures in their society were the Arbor Masters who served as teachers, protectors and monarchs that served as custodians of the Branch Worlds. The collected consciousness of generations of Arbor Masters was absorbed through photosynthesis. (Guardians of the Galaxy v3 #14) Within their society were the tearaways who were the young that lived at a much faster pace than the slow growing matures. (Annihilators v1 #1)

In their society, it was tree-son to pretend to be the King with the offender life sentences where they were chained to the Isle of Punishment. (Annihilators v1 #1)

The upper canopy was home to the Arbor Masters and the Coppice Schools. (Guardians of the Galaxy v3 #14)

According to Groot, his race was once saved by Adam Warlock, he did so again by restoring Groot's World Pod to bring back his race. The Guardians went to Planet X to plant the World Pod but was infested with feral symbiotes by Thanos, forcing them to destroy the planet to get rid of most of them. The World Pod was then planted on Planet Y, where the Flora colossus will one day coexist with the remaining pure Symbiotes, but will sprout within a billion millennia.
