History
The Leviathon Tide
Many years ago, the Leviathon's came upon a colony formed by the Universal Inhumans where great beasts landed on the planet's surface to raze and cleanse it for their queen. In opposition to the interstellar beast, a female warrior emerged who had the gift of summoning monsters from anywhere in the universe to her aid. Despite her valiant struggle, she was killed and the planet was consumed by the Leviathons. (Monsters Unleashed v2 #3) A lone Leviathon once attacked Planet X that was the capital of the Branch Worlds of the Flora Colossus where it burnt much of the world before escaping. (Guardians of the Galaxy v4 #1.MU)
Approaching Earth, they Leviathons began a coordinated attack on this world. This saw one of their own landing in Boston, Massachusetts where the Avengers confronted the beast. After dealing with one, more began to land leading to more of the planet's heroes responding to lend their aid and to protect protect civilian life. Meanwhile, reports of further sightings began around the globe such as in London, England where the X-Men responded to another such monster. At the Golden City in Wakanda, a Leviathon behemoth had landed which devastated the capital where the Black Panther T'Challa and his sister Shuri sought to stop it. The Guardians of the Galaxy who were at Earth responded to a Leviathon attack at Seattle, Washington. Meanwhile, the Inhumans and their allies fought off an aquatic Leviathon at Venice, Italy. The young Champions came to fight a gigantic eye-shaped Leviathon that had landed in Los Angeles, California. From her home at New York City, Moon Girl came to track the monster meteor sightings whilst looking for a scientific solution to combating the threat. At the same time, Elsa Bloodstone consulted the various occult works in her possession that spoke of the coming of this threat to the Earth. She would travel to Peru to consult even older carvings that spoke of an ancient war where such monsters once came to ravage the Earth. (Monsters Unleashed v2 #1)
The Alpha Flight Space Station came to track down the monsters as they fell down to Earth's surface. One of these was deemed large enough to be classified as a world killer. Captain Marvel Carol Danvers along with her Alpha Flight team went to respond towards it. Danvers managed to steer the monster away but further drops came to the planet. Organizations such as S.H.I.E.L.D. retrieval teams and Parker Industries moved in to help in the clean-up operations following the defeat of some of the monsters. S.H.I.E.L.D. Phil Coulson was tasked with determining the origins of the monsters which were unknown at the time. Meanwhile, the Winter Guard moved to protect Moscow from one of the creatures as they served as the first line of defense for the nation. During this time, that Moon Girl determined that the monsters were communicating and indicating a much wider assault was coming to Earth. Meanwhile, Elsa Bloodstone came to find the person she believed would help defend the planet from these monsters in the form of a boy named Kei Kawada. (Monsters Unleashed v2 #2)
It was then that Kid Kaiju ended up summoning Goliathon's to Earth where they gathered to oppose the Leviathons. Working together, the gigantic monsters managed to defeat the alien invaders with the Inhumans of Earth informing the planet's heroes of the nature of the threat. Meanwhile, the Leviathon's informed their queen mother of the emergence of a new Inhuman summoner and she dispatched her Servitors to slay the boy whilst sending the entirety of her horde to Earth to conquer it to be their new spawning ground. (Monsters Unleashed v2 #3)
Overview
In appearance, the Leviathons were titanic monsters that came in a variety of shapes and forms. (Monsters Unleashed v2 #3) Their skins were noted to had been thick enough to resist attacks from conventional weaponry. (Monsters Unleashed v2 #1) They were part of a classification of creatures referred to as Gigas Monstrum. (Monsters Unleashed v2 #3)
Whilst all appearing different, the actions of the Leviathons was often an indicator of their collaboration, communication and teamwork. (Monsters Unleashed v2 #1)
The species was led by a queen who awoke every thousand years to find worlds to consume of resources where she nested on the destroyed world. The personal attendants of the queen were her Servitors that acted as her eyes and enforced her will. She was able to probe their minds to learn new information and often dispatched them to serve as assassins to eliminate any threat to her spawning. (Monsters Unleashed v2 #3)
