Biography

Angela del Toro was a female human born in the modern age as the daughter of Awilda Ayala-Del Toro. (Daredevil v2 #69) As children, Angela and her brother Rey were sometimes babysat by friends of their Uncle Hector Ayala, Iron Fist Danny Rand and Power Man Luke Cage. She came to consider them all to be her uncles and in this time she befriended Iron Fist's girlfriend, Misty Knight. (White Tiger v1 #3) Angela's father was a police officer, and she had an older sister named Marisol. (White Tiger v1 #6) Del Toro received a bachelor's degree in political science and a master's in criminology. She got special commendations from the NYPD and graduated at the top ten percent of her class at Quantico. (White Tiger v1 #2) Del Toro served four years with the NYPD before joining the FBI. (White Tiger v1 #3) One of Del Toro's friends at the FBI was Agent Coville. (White Tiger v1 #1) Later on, her uncle Hector Ayala]] who operated as the superhero White Tiger was killed with his white tiger amulets being passed on to Angela, who had since become a full-fledged FBI agent. (Daredevil v2 #68) Del Toro received her uncle's amulets in the mail, not knowing who sent them to her. (White Tiger v1 #1) Del Toro requested to be assigned to the team investigating Matt Murdock, who was suspected to be the hero Daredevil. She wanted to understand what prompted him to be a hero. (Daredevil v2 #69) Agents Driver and Del Toro questioned Sano Ren, but he claimed to have been peaceably leaving a dinner when a man attacked him. The agents grew frustrated and promised to charge Orii with a concealed weapon charge at least. Before leaving, Driver insulted Orii, claiming that he was a disgrace to his father and his name. (Daredevil v2 #58) Driver and Del Toro watched as Ren and the others were let free, and Driver was highly annoyed. He and Del Toro were only recently assigned as partners and still getting to know each other. Del Toro wondered why they didn't go to Daredevil for help, but Driver said no and that he expected the Yakuza to just back off now. Just then a van pulled up and opened fire on them, hitting Driver with several shots. As Del Toro leapt out of the car, it exploded, killing Driver. (Daredevil v2 #59)

Thus, she became the heir to a heroic legacy that began with the Jade Tiger, a long-lost enchanted statue from the fabled kingdom of K'un-L'un. Broken into pieces, the statue's paws and head resurfaced in America, where the Sons of the Tiger wore them as amulets that enhanced their martial arts prowess. When the Sons disbanded, their discarded amulets were discovered by Del Toro's uncle, the young Hector Ayala, who transformed into the superhuman White Tiger through their power. (Daredevil v2 #38)

Del Toro who was a Federal Agent came to volunteer to participate in the ongoing FBI investigation of the suspected Daredevil, Murdock. However, when Ayala's amulets were handed down to her, an overwhelmed Del Toro asked Murdock to help her decide what to do with them. Knowing the terrible cost of the vigilante lifestyle — and having seen her own partner, agent Harold Driver, killed during the Daredevil investigation —, Del Toro wanted to know why anyone would ever play super-hero. She told Murdock she was willing to quit the FBI and abandon her case if he could answer her questions. (Daredevil v2 #69) Recognizing Del Toro's sincerity, Murdock challenged her to scale St. Catherine's Cathedral then engaged her in rooftop combat as Daredevil. Convinced of her ability, Murdock presented Del Toro with a final lesson by leading her to a robbery in progress. Subduing the robbers single-handedly, a proud Del Toro was touched by the awestruck gratitude of the shopkeeper she had rescued, and she finally began to understand her new calling. Shortly thereafter, Del Toro rescued Murdock from ex-crime lord Alexander Bont and his reluctant henchman Gladiator. (Daredevil v2 #70)
