Jennifer Kale

Kale's teenage granddaughter Jennifer took an interest in witchcraft, and, using one of his books without his knowledge, experimented in summoning a demon. She succeeded in bringing the powerful demon Thog the Nether-Spawn to Earth from the other-dimensional world of Sominus without realizing he would not be under her control. But the Man-Thing saved Jennifer's life, and Thog was forced back to Sominus. As a result of a subsequent encounter of the Man-Thing, Jennifer, and Thog, Joshua Kale realized that Jennifer had a psychic link with the Man-Thing. (Fear v1 #11)

Now living in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Jennifer continued her studies of the mystic arts. Her ritual of peace was interrupted by Dr. Strange, who sought her aid in treating Dan Ketch, who was suffering from a mystic affliction. Achieving an instant dislike for the bitter and cynical John Blaze, Jennifer agreed to help Strange if he would promise to help her on a future project she had been working on for about a year. She communed with Ketch's Ghost Rider, helping to restore his memory, starting with the name Noble Kale. However, her probing unleashed a mystic backlash. (Ghost Rider v3 #77) Learning that Ketch's spirit was being assaulted by the Furies, Jennifer sent her astral form into the Void to help him. She succeeded in purging the Furies from the Void, but not before one of them skewered her astral form, causing her physical form to suffer similar injury. Jennifer correctly reasoned that the Furies were after Ghost Rider due to the murder of a woman, while Strange then abandoned them, telling them that it was a problem only their bloodline could correct. After looking up the proper memory spell, Jennifer sent the astral forms of herself, Blaze, and Ghost Rider into the past to observe the origins of Noble Kale and the Ghost Rider. Jennifer revealed that the Furies wanted to kill not just Ghost Rider, but also all traces of him and his family from Earth, including herself, Ketch, and Blaze. (Ghost Rider v3 #78) Jennifer accompanied Blaze and Ketch, using a memory spell to erase the knowledge that Dan was the Ghost Rider from Dan's adoptive mother, Francis, and his on-and-off girlfriend, Stacy Dolan. Jennifer then detected the Furies possessing human hosts and had Dan and Blaze prepare for battle. (Ghost Rider v3 #79) Jennifer, Blaze, and the Ketch Ghost Rider battled the Furies. The Valkyrie was drawn to fight and helped oppose the Furies. Ultimately Jennifer used her and Blaze's ancestral link to call up the spirit of Magdalena, who released the Furies from her request for vengeance against Noble Kale. (Ghost Rider v3 #80)

Jennifer and Blaze confronted Black Rose, wondering how to deal with her, but Blackheart arrived and snatched her away. Blaze asked for Jennifer's help in finding his missing kids; she refused initially, tired of the trouble she had encountered since meeting him, but eventually she took pity on him and agreed to help. They returned to her apartment to find Howard the Duck, who had been waiting for her for his appointment for three hours. Wong arrived and delivered a mystic text, which Jennifer used to try to return Howard to Duckworld, but instead opened a portal to Dinosaur World, transporting Devil Dinosaur and Moon Boy into her apartment. (Ghost Rider v3 #81) Jennifer, Blaze, and Howard struggled with the disoriented and enraged Devil Dinosaur, resulting in Devil's tail smashing a brick wall on top of Jennifer and Blaze. The rampage across the city attracted the Ghost Rider, who subdued Devil Dinosaur. Jennifer was taken to a hospital before she could send Devil Dinosaur and Moon Boy back. (Ghost Rider v3 #82) Returning to her apartment, the battle weary Jennifer threw Blaze out, telling him they would start looking for his kids tomorrow. (Ghost Rider v3 #83) Jennifer and Blaze made ten failed attempts to locate his kids. Jennifer used a lock of Blaze's hair and some human bones to try to locate Blaze's kids and the Wendigo. (Ghost Rider v3 #86) Jennifer accompanied Blaze on a trip northward to try to Canada on the trail of the Wendigo. (Ghost Rider v3 #88) Jennifer and Blaze got lost in Canada. (Ghost Rider v3 #89)

Jennifer was once sought out to help the mutant team known as X-Force. She helped against Pandemonia, who had taken mystic control of several X-Force members. Jennifer joined X-Force in confronting Pandemonia. She freed Pandemonia's mental slaves (Locus, Meltdown, Warpath, Skids, Sunspot) and, assisted by Moonstar, she banished Pandemonia back to her home dimension on the chaos plane. (X-Force v1 #85)

After joining Florida's state Initiative team, Command, and fought the Skrulls infiltration of the Initiative during the Secret Invasion. (Avengers: The Initiative v1 #19) Jennifer was then called to investigate some strange happenings around Man-Thing's swamp. Having to fight several zombies, including zombified members of her own team and an extra-dimensional zombie Deadpool, who expertly cut her connection to her magical powers, before being minced on the fan of a fan-boat by Jennifer. She was eventually picked up by A.R.M.O.R. and placed in quarantine, seemingly in a near-catatonic state. (Marvel Zombies 3 v1 #1)

Heroic Age

Around this time, the Man-Thing came to be removed from his swamp in the Florida Everglades and came to be used as a mobile transportation system for the Thunderbolts. This left the Nexus unguarded and Kale looked to return its guardian to it. Using magic, she came to infiltrate the Raft and took the Man-Thing back with her where the helped repel interdimensional invaders that arrived in the swamp. She then opposed the Thunderbolts in taking the Man-Thing back but came to see that the guardian of the nexus was willingly helping the team. Thus, she came to say her farewells and departed the scene. (Thunderbolts v1 #154)

She later came to be a target of Daniel Drumm who looked to remove all magic users before getting revenge against Doctor Strange. (New Avengers v2 #34) This saw him taking over Victoria Hand where he was responsible for the murder of Jennifer Kale. (New Avengers v2 #31) She came to resurrect herself using dark magic but the cost of it left the right side of her body without any skin. Maria Hill came to seek her out for her magical aid in order to track down Bullseye after the Hand took him away. Kale came to use her magical ability to transport Elektra to the hidden location the Hand were using to heal the villain. (Elektra v4 #9)

Afterwards, she was responsible for summoning Belasco from Hell on behalf of Man-Thing so that Ted Sallis could take revenge on the demon for his condition. (X-Men: Curse of the Man-Thing v1 #1)
