History
Origin
The Star Sapphire Corps were an interstellar organization of users of the Emotional Spectrum capable of harnessing the power of love from the Emotional Spectrum. Their origins were traced to the Zamarons who began to use a parasitic crystal called the Star Sapphire. Typically, the Star Sapphire bonded to a host and influenced them where they served as a chosen champion for the Zamarons and selected to be their queen. (Green Lantern v4 #20)
Carol Ferris revealed to Hal Jordan that she had been possessed by the entity and gained knowledge of its origins after it was removed. She stated that the Star sapphire came from Sector 1416 and compromised of an entire Corps of Star Sapphire's whose duties were to spread love throughout the 3600 Sectors of the Universe. The creators and leaders of this organization were a group of female Oans who left their kin to settle on the planet Zamaron where they became known as the Zamarons. This branch of the Maltusian race discovered a parsitic crystal on the planet and shaped them into the first Star Sapphire's. With their power, they sought to empower females who had been loved and spurned thus providing them the opportunity to get their revenge.
After this chain of events, the Zamarons then converted the Star Sapphire that was tricked into latching onto their Queen into a power ring and lantern. This was then placed upon a dais which contained rings and lanterns of the Green Lantern Corps and Sinestro Corps as well as other sets from the different colors of the emotional spectrum. This was because the Zamarons were aware of a "prophecy" and decided to collect all emotions in order to combat it. Ultimately, the Zamarons decided that the Star Sapphire was too great for them to control and crafted the Violet Power Battery with rings that were fuelled by love.
War of Light
Sinestro later led his corps to attack Zamaron and free the captured Sinestro Corps members. During their attack, the Black Lantern Corps descended on Zamaron. The arrival of Hal Jordan and the Indigo Tribe managed to hold the line for a time, but two Black rings attached themselves to the corpses in the Violet Central Power Battery, Khu-Fu and Chya-ra. Their rising caused the Violet Battery to explode and free the Predator. The Indigo Tribe transported Carol, Hal, and Sinestro to Korugar, but it was unknown if the Zamarons survived the explosion. For all intents and purposes, the Star Sapphire Corps were removed from the War of Light. Despite this, Carol's powers seemed to remain intact. (Green Lantern v4 #46)
Zamaron was later visited by one of the Dark Gods with a monolith arriving on that world. The Star Sapphires attempted to battle the deity but many of their number were slain as Karnell the god of love emerged. Upon facing this threat, the Star Sapphires recruited Wonder Woman of Earth to be their leader to help against this threat. (Wonder Woman Annual v5 #2)
Overview
In many respects, the Star Sapphire Corps are similar to the Green Lantern Corps but instead of using willpower as the focus of their power they instead made use of the power of love. However, as revealed by the Guardians, the further along the line an individual was in the emotional spectrum, the greater the influence the rings had over their users. Thus, the violet power rings were one of two emotional types that had influence over its wielder; the other being the rings of the Red Lantern Corps.
The Star Sapphire Corps power was tied to the parasitic Star Sapphire crystal. It was linked to the Emotional Spectrum but due to it being on the further end of it then it had a greater influence over its host. To rectify that, the Zamarons modified it where they re-shaped it into a Power Ring that was to be outfitted into an entire corps of such wielders. (Green Lantern v4 #20)
The oath of the Star Sapphires was:
- "For hearts long lost and full of fright."
- "For those alone in Blackest Night,"
- "accept our ring and join our fight."
- "Love conquers all with Violet Light!"
They are capable of intergalactic travel, surviving inhabitable environments such as exposed space and creating energy construct.Their more unique abilities include encasing beings within violet crystals. Beings within these crystals are kept in stasis and psychically bombarded with thoughts of love. This is the primary means the Star Sapphire Corps uses to forcibly rehabilitate violent beings. The emotion channeled by the Star Sapphires, Love, is shown as a flexible emotion, as opposed to singular emotions like willpower or rage, love can be channeled as love for a lover, love for her children, or even love for a concept, such as Guy Gardner briefly using a ring via his love for the Green Lantern Corps.
Because violet is at one of the extreme ends of the Emotional Spectrum, members of the Star Sapphire Corps are susceptible to being mentally compromised by their own power. Many Star Sapphires lose a portion of their own free will, following the beating heart of their Central Power Battery. They may take extreme measures to show their love, such as killing and sealing their loved ones in crystal to be together forever. Carol Ferris is one of the few able to resist the effects of the violet light.
A key component for the Star Sapphire Corps was the Violet Lantern Power Battery.

Alternate Versions
- In The Green Lantern: Season Two v1 #9 (2020), an alternate version of the Star Sapphire Corps were shown to be inhabitants of the alternate reality of Earth-11. The Star Sapphire Sorority was formed by the Zamarons of Oa who looked to promote peace and law through love in the cosmos. This had them at odds with the old male immortals of Oa who believed in outdated ideals such as the innate superiority of men, the weakness of emotion and a desire for conquest, battle as well as expansion. Earth-11 later had contact between its Greco-Amazonian culture and the Zamarons with Carol Ferris being chosen as her universe's Star Sapphire stood among the ranks of the Justice Guild.

The Star Sapphires were said to had once lived alongside the Guardians, but were disgusted by their choice of creating decisions without emotions. They then sought to create their own civilization composed entirely of women on the planet Zamaron and gather new members from those who feel an absurd amount of love. They believed that life would be more peaceful and loving when women were in charge, and neglected men to join their corps. After centuries of existence and isolation, they had forgotten the true meaning of love and began to kidnap men in an attempt to bring love to the universe. It was not until they attempted to include Carol Ferris into their ranks that they practiced the true meaning of love once again
