Biography

Origin

Bolphunga was an alien with a love for destruction.

He had developed a fear reputation by vanquishing a number of foes where among his conquests was pulverizing Rustang the Vindictive, pureed the terrifying 'Kloba Vud, and broke seventeen of Rivera's arms. Afterwards, he plotted to make a name for himself by challenging the most feared and mysterious being of all who happens to be the Green Lantern Corps member Mogo. He went to the planet where Mogo was said to have been sighted and searched the entire planet. It was said that he had spent months there in search for his quarry until he finally came to realisation that Mogo was the planet all along due to the greenness of the plants and clearings. Upon finding out, Bolphunga quickly made a retreat from the planet and fled back into space on his ship. (Green Lantern v2 #188)

Bolphunga later assisted Fatality and another bounty hunter in attacking Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner, and Soranik Natu on the behalf of the Spider Guild. When it came to attacking the other Lanterns, Kilowog recognizes Bolphunga as the one that challenged Mogo years earlier and ends up throwing Bolphunga into Fatality. He later attacked Guy Gardner on the planet Restoria as part of his revenge over what happened in the Vega system. The villain served as an inmate in Oa's prison where he and Kanjar Ro end up assisting the Green Lantern Corps in their fight against the Sinestro Corps.

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. Bolphunga

He spent his entire life cultivating a dark reputation, greatly overstating his physical prowess and the duels and battles he had won in order to be feared. The trick worked, and he quickly gained followers among other cepheid criminals, becoming the leader of the Cepheid Raiders for several years. However, his lies were well known to his father Boff, who was ashamed of him. After Bolphunga was arrested by Green Lantern John Stewart for trying to invade the bank planet Vault, his reputation meant that other criminals stayed clear of him. However, while drunk, Bolphunga let slip how utterly unearned his reputation actually was, and he was frequently beaten to a bloody pulp by other prisoners who had held grudges against him. This included his own men, after a plea bargain attempt led to him accidentally implicating some of them in yet further crimes. His reputation in tatters and life in constant risk, Bolphunga was rescued when the inverted angel known as Singularity Jain visited his cell disguised to the outside world as a well known diplomat, and offered him his freedom in exchange for Bolphunga killing his own father. Bolphunga accepted, but instead of killing his father, he kept him as a passenger aboard his ship, and fled to Earth seeking help from Green Lanterns Jessica Cruz and Simon Baz, in order to find a way to save his father and himself, as Singularity Jain sent him a message, saying that he would be killed if he didn't kill his father. (Green Lanterns v1 #35)
