Biography

Bruno Bucciarati.

Bruno Bucciarati (Japanese: ブローノ・ブチャラティ, Hepburn: Burōno Bucharati) was a male human born in the modern age as the son of a fisherman in a coastal town in a suburb of Naples. He lived a happy childhood with his parents but when he was seven years old he learnt that his mother was not happy with the marriage and wanted a divorce. His father wanted to remain in the village whilst his mother intended to move to the city with the pair wanting Bruno to decide which parent he wanted to stay with for the future. During that moment, his mother attempted to convince him to stay with her to the city where he would get an education and be with children his own age but he ultimately decided to stay with his father which shocked his parents. In reality, Bruno had decided to stay because he believed his father needed him more as he would just grow lonely and die compared to his mother as she would simply move forward with her life. Initially, she came back to the village to visit him but after a time she came to re-marry and would only come sporadically around Christmas. Meanwhile, Bruno's father came to work hard to provide for his son so that he could one day move to the city and receive an education whereby he began offering tours in addition to operating as a fisherman. One day, two tourists asked to borrow his fathers boat as they claimed to want to fish around the small islands off Naples with them acting suspiciously. Despite this being the case, Bruno's father took them to the site and was gone for several days where he came to learn that the men were in fact gangsters involved in the drug trade who were going to a secret meeting site with multiple other men. Bruno's father witnessed the sale and was shot seven times in order to eliminate the witness but he survived though badly wounded whereby he was rescued by a police boat. He was rushed to hospital with the young Bruno distraught at his fathers condition as the police looked for him to awaken so he could identify his attackers. Though alive, Bruno's father was left on life support due to the injuries he sustained with the young Bucciarati standing watch over him. He was twelve years old when two gangsters broke into his fathers room to murder him with Bruno waiting for them in hiding underneath the bed and he killed both attackers with a knife. Thus, he committed his first murders which changed his life forever but reasoned that his attackers comrades would not stop until his father had died. Thus, Bruno went for to join the gang as he sought out Passione in exchange for protection as he knew the police would never help him. He operated as a Passione member whereby he attracted the attention of the Capo Polpo and received through him a Stand power. For the next few years, he continued to work for Polpo and did not care about his gang's actions. Five years later, his father died due to the complications from the surgery that had lept him alive. Sometime afterwards, he was involved in patrolling a territory where he discovered a Passione member involved in drug deals with this being a vice Bruno did not tolerate as it was responsible for ultimately killing his father. Upon seeing this, he came to learn that the Boss of Passione was deliberately engaging in drug sales with this breaking his trust in his leader. Bucciarati's skill in the gang eventually led to him being allowed to create his own Team Bucciarati leading to him eventually recruiting Pannacotta Fugo, Leone Abbacchio, Narancia Ghirga, and Guido Mista all of whom owed debt to Bruno for his kindness.

He was later informed that 'Leaky Eye' Luca had been killed after finding his body and Bucciarati was sent to find the person responsible for his death. Bruno came to learn that the last person to meet Luca was a young teenager named Giorno Giovanna and he found his quarry on a tram. This saw him confront the blonde haired man where initially he seemed to dismiss Giorno as a suspect but this was a trick and he determined that Giovanna was lying to him. Thus, he revealed himself as a Stand user and was prepared to kill his quarry as he believed him to be responsible for killing Luca. However, he was surprised to find out that Giorno also possessed a Stand power though initially Bruno had the advantage. This changed when Giovanna's Gold Experience struck him causing Bruno's senses to go berserk and he experienced sensory overload that prevented him from fighting properly. After being injured, he decided to use his Stand's ability to escape though Giorno pursued him with Bucciarati using Sticky Fingers to hide in the body of a bystander. However, Gold Experience managed to locate Bruno leading to him having to fight Giovanna once again. Despite that, Giorno decided not to continue the fight and stated that he felt Bruno was a good person as he disagreed with hurting innocents as evidenced in their fight. Giovanna then stated that he intended to become the leader of the mob in order to prevent its current leader from using it to hurt the innocent. Thus, his dream was to become a "Gang-Star" and asked Bucciarati to help him to achieve this goal. Ultimately, Bruno decided to aid him by not reporting his findings to his superiors but warned that he would not shelter Giorno if anyone in the Passione found out his true intentions. He then stated that to join Passione that Giorno had to petition the local Capo namely Golpo for membership and pass the initiation with Bucciarati revealing that his boss was operating from within the local prison. After passing Golpo's test, Bruno welcomed Giorno into the ranks of Passione and introduced him to his team at their hideout.

Bruno then took his team out on a boat as they headed to Capri where he revealed to the rest of his gang that their Capo Poplo had died in an apparent suicide. Bruno then stated that they were heading to the place where he had hid Polpo's fortune under the Capo's instructions with this valuing over a billion lira. Bucciarati revealed his intention to use that money to make his bid to replace Polpo as Capo in Passione. It was then that their boat came under attack from a rival Passione Stand member who intended to steal the money for himself. After being attacked by the Stand Soft Machine and its user, Mario Zucchero, and after Mista defeats Sale, Bucciarati eventually obtains the hidden treasure. Afterwards, on Capri, he took his men to the public toilets as the were prepared to recover the fortune. It was then that the felt that they were being followed with Narancia confronting two apparent cleaners outside that he wanted to leave. However, one of them attacked him and upon meeting the cleaners it was then that Bruno was surprised to see that one of them was actually the Capo Pericolo in disguise. He had come to appraise the fortune that Bucciarati was intending to give to the organization as part of his bid to be Capo. Pericolo concluded the fortune was genuine and welcomed Bruno as Polpo's successor where as Capo he was to give 50% of his earnings to the organization whilst he managed his territory. Upon his appointment, Pericolo gave Bucciarati a job that was previously assigned incomplete to Polpo which was namely for him and his team to protect the Boss's newly discovered daughter who was the 15 year old Trish Una. It was discovered that there were traitors in the organization and until the Boss had dealt with them then Bruno's team was to protect her as well as keep her hidden. After a failed first mission resulting in Narancia sustaining an injury and an entire street being set on fire due to a battle between him and Formaggio, Bucciarati moves Trish and also retrieves a key from Pompeii for a turtle that possesses a Stand that will serve as a room for the group. This leads to an altercation concerning Fugo, Abbacchio, and Giorno and the enemy Stand user Illuso with his Stand Man in the Mirror. Upon examining the key, the team finds further instructions to go to Naples' train station and board a train to Venice. Bucciarati notices that he is followed by two assassins but finds Coco Jumbo, a turtle Stand User which can be used as a hideout. Thus, Bucciarati's team hides in the turtle, confusing the assassins.

Later, while on board a moving train bound for Florence, Bucciarati and Mista battle against Prosciutto's The Grateful Dead and Pesci's Beach Boy. The Grateful Dead accelerates the aging of everyone aboard the train, including most of the group, leaving only Bucciarati and Mista to fight the assassins off. Though Mista is nearly killed by Prosciutto and unconscious for the rest of the fight, Bucciarati ambushes the two enemies and pulls Prosciutto out of the train along with him, successfully getting him off and re-entering the train in short order. However, Pesci becomes resolved to avenge his brother figure, and relentlessly attacks Bucciarati with his Stand's hook. With Beach Boy almost reaching his heart, Bucciarati unzips himself into many pieces to stop the hook. However, unlike the situation with Zucchero's head, Bucciarati's parts are truly disconnected from each other, slowly killing him. He nearly dies before the train steers and brings his parts back together just as Pesci retracts his Stand's line. Pesci stops the train and Bucciarati faces off with him outside, ending with Pesci being the victim of a punch barrage from Sticky Fingers as he's taken apart by the zippers and thrown into the nearby pond. Bucciarati and the gang continue their journey to Venice. While the team steals a car, Bucciarati and Trish are attacked by Baby Face and promptly defeated, but Giorno intercepts Baby Face and defeats him, also sending a snake after Melone to get rid of him. The team is instructed to use Moody Blues and discover Pericolo who tells them to retrieve a disc containing further instructions for Trish's final delivery. The team subsequently finds the disc, learn about the instructions and reach San Giorgio Maggiore, the final destination of their mission.

As a result, Bucciarati came to die where his soul ascended into the life where his spirit came to say his goodbyes to Giorno where he thanked him for having brought him back to life and restoring his dying faith in him. It was shown that Bruno was seemingly guided to heaven by angels where he thanked his friend Giovana by giving him the Arrow allowing him greater access to his Stand power.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Bruno Bucciarati was a mid-sized human male with a slim build who had black chin-length hair and straight-cut bangs covering his forehead. He adorned his hair with a braid that the top of his head with a hair clip on each side of his bangs.

He was consistently shown to be serious, even as a young child, and usually keeps a serious and unflinching demeanor throughout the story. Moreover, Bucciarati takes his responsibility as a team leader seriously, considering that a lieutenant has the double duties to accomplish the mission but also to ensure that his subordinates live.

It was claimed that Bruno was ultimately a good person who believed that Mafia members were noble and should not engage in activity such as selling drugs to children and women. Even though he was a member of "Passione", he had a kind personality with many people coming to him for help. He acknowledged that the world was rotten but even then he wanted to walk down the path he believed in.

Bucciarati keeps a strong relationship with his team, being severe but fair and giving them praise whenever he thinks it is earned. His habit of looking for misfits and treating them humanely and often with kindness has indeed secured their loyalty, allowing the majority of the group to stay united under him even when they rebel against the Boss of Passione.

Bucciarati delivers his catch phrase while his Stand beats his opponents senseless with its fists. He begins stringing "Ari ari ari" to its rapid punches, saying "Arrivederci" on finish; "Arrivederci" meaning "Goodbye" in Italian.

Powers and abilities

It was his intelligence that made him a remarkable fighter where he used the environment to his advantage in conjunction with his abilities. According to Bucciarati, he was able to tell if someone was lying to him or not.

As a Stand User (スタンド使い Sutando Tsukai), he was able to form a Stand (スタンド Sutando) that was a manifestation of his life energy. He came to get his own Stand power with this manifesting as Sticky Fingers (スティッキィ・フィンガーズ Sutikkyi Fingāzu) which took the form of a blue humanoid being. Its power was the ability to place a fully functioning zipper on another it touched. Once placed, the zipper could be opened either partially to gain access to something or completely thus detaching it from the main body. Sticky Fingers can hit a wall, placing a zipper on it. It can then open the zipper, allowing entrance through or into the wall. Its ability is not limited to inanimate objects; it can be used on humans. Bucciarati is able to use its ability on himself. Its ability can also be used offensively, to take things apart, or to mismatch things.

After his death, Giorno had attempted to bring him back with this being only temporary as he only had a set amount of time before his body finally expired. As a result, he operated as normal but effectively his body was dead with it being cold to the touch and he did not experience pain even from grievous injuries. In one case, a Stand power that targeted living beings by covering them in mould had no effect on him.

He came to be a member of the Italian mafia where he joined Passione (パッショーネ Passhōne, lit. Passion in Italian) and was part of their criminal ventures. Over time, he came to head a team of loyal members that came to be known as Team Bucciarati (ブチャラティチーム Bucharati Chīmu) who mostly stayed by his side after he was declared rogue by Passione.
