Carlos Olivera
The job of Carlos Olivera as a member of the elite paramilitary UBCS was to defend the interests of Umbrella. Regardless, Carlos felt, first and foremost, that his duty as a soldier was to defend the lives of innocent civilians. When he and his team were in their helicopter en route to the Raven's Gate Bridge to provide some much-needed reinforcements to Major Timothy Cain and his men in the wake of the T-Virus outbreaks in Raccoon City, Carlos risked his life to jump from the 'copter and onto a rooftop in an effort to save an office worker, Marla Maples, who was in trouble.
However, Carlos was unable to save her, and he and his team ended up being stranded in Raccoon City when the helicopter lifted off and never returned for them. Once at street level, Carlos and his teammates joined the RPD and STARS in battling the zombie hordes, but were ultimately overwhelmed and forced to retreat once Carlos' team had been whittled down to just himself, Nicholai Ginovaef (Nicholai Sokolov), and Yuri Loginova (Yuri Loginov).
When no evacuation helicopters came, Carlos realized that he and his men were considered nothing but expendable assets to Umbrella. The three UBCS members sought refuge at the Raccoon City Hospital, where Yuri, who had been bitten and infected with the T-Virus, turned into a zombie and attacked Carlos, biting him and infecting him too. Carlos would have surely shared Yuri's fate had he and Nicholai not been contacted by Dr. Charles Ashford, who offered to help them escape from the city in return for rescuing his daughter Angela.
Angela had on her person some samples of the antidote to the T-Virus, and Carlos was spared from becoming a zombie. Upon learning that Umbrella planned to destroy Raccoon City with a nuclear missile to cover their tracks, Carlos turned against his company and helped Alice, Jill Valentine, and L.J. in their fight against both Major Cain's troops and Nemesis. Following this, he escaped from Raccoon City with his life before it was nuked on Cain's order.
