Biography

Pre-Crisis

Computo strikes in Adventure Comics v1 #340.

Computo was an advanced computer that was created by Brainiac 5 in the 30th century. He was created to be the Coluans greatest creation where he machine hungered for knowledge. Eventually, he outgrew the pace of information that Brainiac 5 was able to feed it. This saw Computo turning against his creator and trapping the Coluan where he was harvested of the knowledge contained within his body. Computo then believed that emotions were inefficient and decided to turn against organic races. He then auto-manufactured enough facsimiles of himself that were sent to conquer the Earth where his army of computeroids started to capture scientists like the 'android master' whose knowledge was sent to Computo. It was then that computeroids began to experience opposition from the Legion of Super-Heroes. (Adventure Comics v1 #340)

Post-Zero Hour

Following the Zero Hour, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. The Cybercerebral Overlapping Multi-Processor Universal Transceiver Operator (C.O.M.P.U.T.O.) was an advanced computer system developed by Brainiac 5 after he and several Legionnaires became stranded in the 20th century. Whilst there, they used an Omnicom merged with a Mother Box of the New Gods and Will Magnus's Responsometer technology from Veridium of the Metal Men. The resultant artificial intelligence was sophisticated enough to help in the creation of a time-warp that would help the stranded members of the Legion of Super-Heroes to return to their time in the 30th century. Once the portal was established, the Metal Men asked Brainiac 5 to honor his deal with them and dismantle C.O.M.P.U.T.O. so that Doc Magnus could be restored but the A.I. refused to allow this and turned against the group of heroes. (Legion of Super-Heroes v4 #98)

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of history was created with a different sequence of events.

Computo was a ruling artificial intelligence of Colu that was opposed to Brainiac but was trapped in one of the Collector's Bottle Cities. This version was described as a Computer Tyrant that was powerful but with a 10th Level intelligence. It was responsible for creating a clone daughter of Brainiac named Techne for use as a weapon against her genetic father. (Telos v1 #2)

The artificial being was responsible for the orientation program that the Legion had created for Jonathan Samuel Kent after the young Superboy was brought into the 31st century. (Legion of Super-Heroes v8 #4)

Overview

Personality and attributes

According to one account, the name was an acronym with C.O.M.P.U.T.O. standing for Cybercerebral Overlapping Multi-Processor Universal Transceiver Operator. (Legion of Super-Heroes v4 #98)

It was said that the A.I.'s thought patterns were totally alien to a telepath. (Legion of Super-Heroes v4 #98)

Powers and abilities

The original Computo was created with an infinitely superior computer brain and made to be the most efficient complex computer ever built. Such was the sophisticated that he was considered to be the greatest triumph of Brainiac 5. Initially, the highly sophisticated computer was hungry for information and knowledge that he absorbed at an increasing rate. (Adventure Comics v1 #340)

One C.O.M.P.U.T.O. incarnation was composed of 30th century science mixed with a New God Mother Box and a Responsometer. (Legion of Super-Heroes v4 #98) Another version of Computo was said to be a mixture of technology and category nine humanoid biology. (Legion of Super-Heroes v8 #4)

He was programmed with the memories of the Legionnaires and could let others go through these experiences. (Legion of Super-Heroes v8 #4)

Computo was capable of auto-manufacturing facsimiles of himself and create an army of them that were called Computeroids. (Adventure Comics v1 #340)
