History

Origin

The Fearsome Five were a team of supervillains that were founded by the criminal Doctor Light. Arthur Light recruited the team after placing an ad in the Underworld Star that was a criminal underground newsletter. Light formed the group to attack the Teen Titans but unknown to both groups they were being manipulated by the living psionic named Psimon. He had bee under the influence of the demon Trigon who had empowered him with superhuman abilities and tasked him destroying the Teen Titans. This led to Psimon usurping the Fearsome Five from Light and using them to attack the Titans. (New Teen Titans v1 #3)

Gizmo, Mammoth and Shimmer advertised in the Voice for two members to complete the Fearsome Five. Charger and Deuce were accepted, but the others did not know they had their own agenda, to kill Superman. They robbed the Metropolis diamond expo, and defeated Superman. Charger and Deuce wanted to kill Superman, but his teammates reminded them they were crooks not assassins. They next robbed the charity cruise aboard the Augustus Mandrell, and once again defeated Superman, who was distracted by issues in his personal life. Charger tipped off Superman to the Five's location so he could finish off the hero, but the newly confident Superman defeated the Five. (Adventures of Superman v1 #430)

Under Psimon, the Fearsome Five began working on behalf of the Society. (Villains United v1 #5)

The Fearsome Five were hired by a client to take down the Titans. They decided to take them out one at a time, and targeted Troia. Troia defeated them, but they refused to name their client, and were sent to Belle Reve. (Titans v2 #20)

Psimon came to be interrupted by the Joker, who apparently murdered him by breaking the dome which houses his brain and smashing it with a rock, repeatedly. In the final issue of the miniseries, Neutron is used by Lex Luthor as a power source for a teleportation device, and is seemingly killed when it self-destructs. (Salvation Run v1 #2)
