Biography

Grid was a sentient computer virus born within the systems of the Cyborg Victor Stone. He remained dormant with the mechanical systems of his host who was unaware of his existence where he slowly was corrupting files. Around this time, Atomica was infiltrating Victor's systems in secret where she encountered Grid and managed to recruit him to her cause into being a member of the Crime Syndicate of America. (Justice League v2 #23)

In the midst of the Trinity War, Grid activated the moment Atomica revealed her true allegiances where the artificial intelligence brutally ripped itself out from Victor Stone's body leaving him critically injured. The mechanical entity then participated in the attack on the heroes as Pandora's Box was opened to bring forth the Crime Syndicate into the world. (Justice League v2 #23)

Grid later came to serve in the Crime Syndicate of America during their invasion of Earth where he came to serve as a datahub for their operations in taking over the world. Through his abilities, he was able to cut power to all major cities and orchestrates the release of all prisoners from the planet's superhuman prisons. (Forever Evil v1 #1) In this time, Grid came to examine the data files on the Crime Syndicate members in order to learn about emotions. This saw him looking into the data files of Power Ring, Johnny Quick, Atomica and Deathstorm. He was, however, unable to access the information on Superwoman as her files had been deleted with this causing him to experience something akin to suspicion. (Justice League v2 #26) Afterwards, the Metal Men came to be reactivated with Cyborg enlisting them to help him to take out the Crime Syndicate and headed to Happy Harbor. Victor Stone then lured Grid out into a confrontation where he and the Metal Men attacked the artificial intelligence. To aid him, Grid called on assistance from the Secret Society of Super Villains whilst he himself attempted to enter into Cyborg's new body. However, once inside, he came to be trapped in the body just as the Metal Men defeated the Secret Society at the scene. (Justice League v2 #29)

Afterwards, Grid remained trapped in Cyborg's body when the surviving members of the Crime Syndicate came to the Justice League so that they could work together to end the conflict raging between Darkseid and the Anti-Monitor. (Justice League v2 #47)

Following the conflict, Grid and Owlman came to be the only survivors of the Crime Syndicate with them escaping to the Moon. Owlman then downloaded the artificial intelligence into Metron's Mobius Chair but the pair were then confronted by a powerful entity who destroyed the pair. (Justice League v2 #50)

Grid came to survive where he was within Cyborg's body where once again he attempted to take over Victor Stone. (Challenge of the Super Sons v1 #8)

Television

  • In Doom Patrol, Grid was referenced in the live-action DC Universe television series where it appeared in the episode "Donkey Patrol". It was shown as being the artificial intelligence that assisted Cyborg in his operations where it followed his commands such as searching through data or activating the various modes of his mechanical systems. In the episode, "Hair Patrol", Grid activated Cyborg's sonic cannon against the cybernetic hero's wishes; causing him to question his A.I.'s capabilities. In "Frances Patrol", Cyborg finds out that Grid has secretly been enhancing him so he'll go from mostly human to mostly machine. He later tells Jane that he's starting to not trust Grid anymore and is unsure of what to do. At the end of the episode "Cyborg Patrol", it was revealed to be a trick by Mr. Nobody to have Cyborg go crazy and beat up his father Silas Stone for no good reason. While Silas is in critical condition, Rita helps Cyborg reinstall Grid as he stays by his father's side.

Video games

  • In Injustice 2, Grid appeared as an alternate skin playable character and in the story mode of the fighting video game where he was voiced by actor Khary Payton. Brainiac creates Grid by briefly taking over Cyborg's body to create a clone of him deprived of Cyborg's humanity. Grid then fights Cyborg or Catwoman and is defeated by either one. He appears as a "Premier Skin" for Cyborg in the main game, and his character intros reveal that his new task is to achieve human emotion.
  • In Lego DC Super-Villains, Grid appeared in the setting of the video game where he was voiced by actor Bumper Robinson. This version of Grid has emotion and is from the same reality as his teammates are, being portrayed as the Earth-3 counterpart of Cyborg. He and the Crime Syndicate pose as the Justice Syndicate at the time when the Justice League went missing. "Have a nice day." is Grid's catchphrase here. Later, during the Legion of Doom's assault on the Syndicate on top of LexCorp, Grid and Deathstorm are fought against Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Rookie, Harley Quinn, Catwoman and Solomon Grundy, with Grid eventually destroyed in the end.
