Biography

Origin

Metron was one of the New Gods, a morally indifferent being devoted entirely to the pursuit of knowledge.

Despite his neutrality, Metron has intervened on several occasions when reality has been threatened, including Zero Hour, Extant's attempt to seize the Worlogog and recreate reality, and Krona's invasion of the Marvel Universe.

During the Death of the New Gods, a mysterious being was responsible for slaying the various New Gods and bringing about the end of the Fourth World. This saw Metron attempt to track down the one responsible and shockingly discovered that the mastermind of this event was none other than the Source itself. He managed to discover that the Source has been operating in the background for millennia where it attempted to reacquire its full power by merging itself with its splintered other half which was the Anti-Life Entity. Despite this discovery, Metron decided to remain true to his nature and chose not to interfere with the Source's plans but instead decided to observe events that would lead to the end of the New Gods along with the Fourth World. Howwever, it was the death of Mister Miracle at the hands of the Source that changed Metron's views as he became disgusted by the entity's actions. This led to Metron demanding the Source to kill him which it did so after which he went to confront Darkseid.

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

Overview

Personality and attributes

He has stated that he has no ties to any being be they the Olds Gods or New Gods. Instead, he claimed that he was something entirely different and unforseen. (New Gods v1 #7)

Of all the New Gods, he held the greatest of intellects, the clearest of thought and the coolest of judgment. (New Gods v3 #3)

Powers and abilities

He travels existence with his Mobius Chair.

He had been known to make use of reality shards that were crystalline glimpses into possible outcomes rather than probable ones that could lead to a parallel world. Those shown in a reality shard were so unlikely that they could only manifest through artificial means. Metron had been utilising a number of reality shards and used them in a manner similar to computer simulations. He used some as central processing units for his tests with these shards controlling other shards such as the one at Crystal Mountain. (Bug! The Adventures of Forager v1 #3)

Alternate Versions

  • In Ame-Comic v1 #14-17, the character appeared as a female being known as Metra in the alternate reality setting. She was created by Rannian scientists from cosmic forces and kept asleep within a device referred to as a Mother Box. She was capable of quantum thought even in her sleeping state which the Rannian's were capable of monitoring with Alanna Strange intending to awaken her to battle the forces of Sinestra who was invading the Positive Matter Universe. When the heroes are assembled to battle Sinestra, Power Girl marvels at Metra who she comments as being a sentient big bang who when combined with her incubational Mother Box has the power of creation with the ability to restart the universe. When awakened, Metra equips all the heroes with White Lantern Power Rings to battle Sinestra's forces. Metra ends up deliberating on her purpose before confronting Sinestra where the two evenly matched powers destroy themselves but the New God disperses the energy to create New Genesis and Apokolips in order to allow the cosmos to continue on.
