Indigo-1 is a female extraterrestrial comic character that features in DC Comics.

Biography

Iroque was a female being from an unknown world in the universe who had at some point become a criminal. She became a foe of the Green Lantern Abin Sur where she was responsible for the death of his daughter. At some point, she was captured by the Ungaran but rather than take her to the Sciencells on Oa he brought her to the planet Nok. She was given a newly forged indigo Power Ring thus inducting her into the recently established Indigo Tribe. Exposure to the ring caused her to indigo light of compassion led her to feel regret at her past and she adopted the role as Indigo-1. Abin Sur departed back for the Green Lantern Corps but left Indigo-1 with the Nok native Natromo who served as keeper of the tribe's Central Power Battery. Their mission was to find other criminals that were to be inducted into their ranks and 'reformed' in order to serve as an army for coming threats in the future. Among these threats was the prophecised time when the Guardians of the Universe became corrupted and became a danger to the cosmos itself. (Green Lantern v5 #9)

During the Blackest Night, she gathered the Indigo Tribe as they sought to enact their part in the coming War of Light. (Green Lantern v4 #45) She first travelled to the Justice League of America's headquarters on Earth where she arrived in time to save the Atom Ray Palmer from resurrected individuals that were brought back as undead members of the Black Lantern Corps. Indigo-1 and Munk both joined the Flash Barry Allen and Green Lantern Hal Jordan where she combined her indigo light with the green light to destroy the undead creatures. (Blackest Night v1 #3)

Personality and attributes

It was said that as an Indigo Tribe member that she discarded names as well as any other sign of individualism but went by the name of Indigo-1. (Blackest Night v1 #3)

Powers and abilities

As a member of the Indigo Tribe, she spoke in a language that could not be translated even by a Power Ring. According to her, she could speak other languages such as English which they did when they wished to do so. (Blackest Night v1 #3)

She came to wield the indigo light of compassion where she carried around a staff with a Power Battery in it whilst also wearing an indigo ring. This allowed her to tap into the power of the Emotional Spectrum where she utilised he power of compassion which was said to be elusive to most beings. With it, she was also able to sense the compassion another person had for others. (Blackest Night v1 #3)

It was shown that she could combine the different lights of the Emotional Spectrum allowing it to achieve various effects. This included the power to actually destroy Black Lantern who were normally immune to ordinary attacks. Her attack were abl to sever the connection of a black Power Ring to the corpse it had inhabited. (Blackest Night v1 #3)

  • Indigo-1 was created by Geoff Johns, Ivan Reis and Ethan Van Sciver where she made her first appearance in Green Lantern v4 #25 (January, 2008).

  • In Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, Indigo-1 appeared as a playable character in the video game where she was voiced by actor Kari Wahlgren.
