The Anti-Justice League

Post-Crisis

Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. The Injustice League were a team of supervillains that were established on Earth. The super-villain known as Major Disaster once gathered several like-minded criminals in order to establish a counterstrike team for the newly internationalized Justice League. Calling themselves the Injustice League, Disaster's team briefly engaged the Justice League International, but was summarily defeated. The Injustice League disbanded, and each of the team members went their separate ways. (Justice League International v1 #23)

A short time after the dissolution of the Injustice League, Major Disaster and Big Sir encountered his former teammates at an unemployment office in New York City. Inspired by this chance encounter, he convinced the others to regroup for one final crime spree. They decided to steal the highly coveted Dooley Diamond from the Metropolitan Museum of Sundries. When they arrived however, they discovered that a team of terrorists had already arrived before them and were in the process of stealing the diamond for themselves. The Injustice League sprang into action and defeated the terrorists, but authorities arrived before they could steal the diamond for themselves. By sheer luck, the newspapers treated them as heroes, citing that the allegedly reformed villains were now working on the side of justice. This inspired Major Disaster even further, and he pled his case to the Justice League International team liaison, Maxwell Lord. Lord felt that it would be prudent to keep an eye on these inept characters, so he invited them to join the team representing the Antarctica branch. Primarily, Lord felt that this would make a great opportunity to give the resident team imbecile G'nort something to do. He placed G'nort in charge of the team and set them off to Antarctica.

After getting off on parole the Injustice League move to France because of Europe's lack of super heroes. They try to rob a bank, but still being unfamiliar with the language, demand that the bank teller dance with an ostrich. Humiliated again, they enroll in a French language night class. Unfortunately Justice League Europe was enrolled in the same class and a brawl erupted. They ended up deported to America, and Major Disaster decided the team should break up. (Justice League Europe v1 #6)

By coincidence Big Sir, Major Disaster, Clock King and Cluemaster were reunited at the unemployment line. Another coincidence was that Mighty Bruce was working at the unemployment line. Convinced that destiny had brought them together again they decided to track down Multi-Man and bring back the Injustice League. They planned to steal the world-famous Dooley Diamond from the Metropolitan Museum of Sundries, but ran into another gang of criminals already in the process of stealing it. Enraged at being made to look foolish they thrashed the criminals, and were declared heroes by the Daily Planet the next day. Deciding they liked being heroes they offered their services to Maxwell Lord of Justice League International. He made them an official branch of JLI---Justice League Antarctica and foisted G'nort on them as team leader. G'Nort invited his buddy Scarlet Skier to join the new League and the team was complete. Their first case involved the discovery of a research center overrun by mutated penguins. The ravenous penguins attacked their headquarters, and Major Disaster was forced to create an earthquake to save the team. Unfortunately this also resulted in their headquarters being demolished. They were escorted back to JLI Embassy where Maxwell Lord informed them their services would no longer be needed. Justice League Antarctica disbanded and the members went their separate ways. (Justice League America Annual v1 #4)

A new incarnation of the supervillain team was formed that had open membership to large numbers of villains who formed the Injustice League Unlimited. This version was conceived as a protection racket where 35% of a members take was used to secure super-powered back-up to aid them against the Justice League. The offer was simply an enticement as the true purpose by Lex Luthor was to gain the power of all the supervillains combined so that they could together overthrow governments and replace them with proxies that served them. It was deemed that the first step in accomplishing this plan was the complete destruction of the Justice League. Lex Luthor, the Joker and Cheetah headed this version of the Injustice League where they agreed on members to join their ranks. Among their first acts was saving Killer Frost from capture at the hands of Firestorm where they took her back to their secret headquarters at the Hall of Doom. (Justice League of America Wedding Special v2 #1) They managed to capture several members of the Justice League with the video feed sent to Superman and Black Lightning who plotted a rescue only for them to be captured as well. (Justice League of America v2 #14)

Alternate Versions

In other media

Television

  • In Smallville, the Injustice League appeared in the setting of the live-action television series in the episode "Injustice". They were shown to consist of Livewire, Neutron, Plastique, Eva Greer, and Parasite who were sent to search for Doomsday. When Tess Mercer assumed control of LuthorCorp, she began recruiting metahumans to form a team of heroes of Earth. Tess then kills Livewire using an explosive chip implanted in her skull. When Clark Kent discovers this and tells Parasite and Plastique, they manage to disable the chips and attempt to form their own group of criminals. They came to be defeated by Green Arrow and Clark.
  • In Young Justice, the Injustice League made an appearance in the animated television series in the episode "Revelation". Its members included Count Vertigo, Poison Ivy, Black Adam, Wotan, Atomic Skull, Ultra-Humanite and Joker who were all secretly pawns of the Light. They unleashed giant plant monsters modified by Kobra Venom upon the major cities of the world where they were made to act as scapegoats for them, which is accomplished after the Injustice League is defeated. The Justice League and the Team operate under the belief that the actions of the other villains are simply continuing the Injustice League's plans until the penultimate episode of the season, "Usual Suspects". This is the first incarnation of the Injustice League to actually be referred to as such, as all previous appearances could easily be considered the Injustice Gang or Injustice Society.
  • In Harley Quinn, the Injustice League appeared in the 2019 animated television series from its second season. After Gotham City was devastated, the area was declared a no man's land and no longer part of the United States where it became a lawless place. This saw the city's top villains assemble an Injustice League in order to divide it amongst themselves.

Films

  • In Justice League, the Injustice League was indirectly referenced in the setting of the live-action film set in the DC Extended Universe. Lex Luthor during a conversation with Deathstroke mentioned that Superman came back from the dead and was now part of a team of superheroes where he suggested to Slade that they should form a 'league of their own'.
