Biography
Ben Solo was the Force-sensitive son of Leia Organa and Han Solo with him being born to them following the Battle of Endor.
Due to this Force potential, he was taken in by his uncle Luke Skywalker to be trained in the ways of the Jedi. Skywalker had gathered a dozen such individuals that could use the Force and sought to re-establish the Jedi Order.
At some point, a young Ben came to encounter Snoke who gradually seduced the boy to the Dark Side of the Force.
This led to him joining the ranks of the First Order that consisted of the united remnants of the old Galactic Empire. He came to lead the group of warriors known as the Knights of Ren with him taking the name of Kylo Ren.
Afterwards, he was part of the efforts by the First Order to find Luke Skywalker. For this, they looked to retrieve a map containing the Jedi Master's coordinates with this being in the care of an old priest named Lor San Tekka who was on the planet Jakku. A Resistance pilot named Poe Dameron was similarly trying to get the map on behalf of General Princess Leia Organa but was unable to escape before the First Order arrived at the scene. Heading the troop detail, Kylo Ren had the Stormtroopers massacre the civilians and take Dameron hostage but was not aware that the Resistance fighter had given the map to his astromech droid BB-8 for safekeeping. The droid managed to flee the scene with the First Order making efforts to find it. At the same time, a rogue Stormtrooper designated FN-2187 came to free Poe Dameron where the two of them came to crash back onto Jakku. An active effort was made to recover the droids whilst Kylo Ren was warned by Snoke that there had been an awakening in the Force. This centred a young scavenger from Jakku named Rey who Kylo Ren came to take back to Starkiller Base. By this point, s the First Order launched its attack against the New Republic by destroying its capital of Hosnian Prime using the superweapon that was Starkiller Base. The Resistance though came to launch an attack on the giant planetoid space station where Kylo Ren faced a test to his commitment to the Dark Side by being confronted by his father. Han Solo looked to return his son back to the light but instead Ben killed his father where he continue his pursuit of Rey. She though demonstrated her talent in the Force and fought him off whilst Starkiller Base faced catastrophic destruction separating the pair. Thwarted, Kylo Ren returned to the First Order where he swore his loyalty only to Snoke as he continued his path down the Dark Side.
In the aftermath, the First Order began its invasion of the galaxy despite the loss of Starkiller Base. This saw their fleet headed by the Star Dreadnought Supremacy arriving at the planet D'Qar where the Resistance was evacuating their forces. Kylo Ren came to be summoned before Supreme Leader Snoke who became disappointed in his apprentice as he also sensed the emotional turmoil within him following his murder of his father. This combined with his recent defeat at the hands of Rey meant that Snoke had lost faith in him. He came to be struck by Force lightning when he seemed ready to turn against the Supreme Leader where after this humiliation he readied himself to hunt down and destroy the Resistance. As Hux had anticipated through new tracking technology, the First Order armada emerged from hyperspace to find the Resistance fleet unprepared and defenseless in the Oetchi system. The Battle of Oetchi commenced as the warship Supremacy led the charge, its powerful turbolasers showering the fleet with unyielding blasts. To complement the barrage, the Supremacy scrambled its short-distance fighters, with Ren spearheading the assault in his personal TIE silencer. Covered by three wingmen, until the third pilot was quickly destroyed, the dark apprentice intercepted the Resistance's MC85 Star Cruiser Raddus, capital ship of the fleet. Before the rebel pilots could launch a counterattack, he destroyed the Raddus hangar, leaving them unable to resist the fighter wing. With the Resistance flagship crippled, Ren turned his fighter to face the bridge of the craft, readying his rockets. At this moment he sensed his mother's presence aboard the Raddus—with his mother likewise sensing him too—and Ren, hesitating, held his thumb over the trigger in a moment of intense doubt. After a moment, he surrendered to his second thoughts and abandoned the trigger control. His wingmen, however, had no such qualms; ever loyal to the First Order, they launched their rockets in Ren's place upon the bridge. Following this last offensive, Hux ordered the fighters back to the Supremacy, as the Resistance fleet had pulled out of the Supremacy's protective radius in the intervening time. Ren, with his wingmen being blown up around him, had no other recourse but to comply.
As the First Order pursued the Resistance fleet, Ren was being treated for the injury he had taken to his face, a medical droid removing the microsutures that had been attached to it, when he sensed a disturbance. Before he knew it, a vision of Rey appeared before him. Taken aback, Ren could only watch as Rey reached for her blaster and shot him. However, no shot injured him. The still-shocked Ren pursued Rey when she ran away and found her soon after and tried to use the mind trick to force Rey to bring Luke to him, only to realize that they were not actually in the same location and that Rey had not projected her appearance to him as the effort would kill her. He even discovered that Rey had found Luke Skywalker and was now studying under him, although he could not discern where as he was unable to see Rey's surroundings. Whereas the aspiring Jedi regarded their connection as an inconvenience, Ren was intrigued by his bond with the former scavenger and sought to better understand it. The bond between Ren and Rey was unprecedented in its strength and raw power. It also had an effect on Ren's churning emotions, and as it grew stronger in the Force, Rey started gaining new insights into Ren, who, to Rey's surprise, no longer tried to hide his feelings of pain and misery from her. It was because of the bond and her new understanding of Ren's pain that Rey came to suspect that their destinies were intertwined. Ren eventually revealed his recollection of the night he forsook Skywalker's teachings—how he awoke to the sound of a lightsaber, held by his uncle who intended to murder Ben Solo in his sleep—shaking Rey's faith in her Jedi Master. Although Rey called him a liar, she sensed no deception from Ren. He genuinely believed that his former mentor had betrayed him and intended to kill him while he was defenseless. After failing to discover the fate of her parents, Rey sought out Ren through their bond because he understood what it was like to feel alone and lost. They comforted each other, insisting that neither was alone and in that moment they touched hands. Rey then beheld a vision of the future, leading her to believe that Ren was fated to renounce the dark side and return to the light, like his grandfather before him. As a result of what she saw, Rey became convinced that her adversary could be turned from the dark side of the Force. She left Skywalker on his sanctuary and traveled to the Supremacy to see Ren, her actions guided by the belief that Ben Solo could be redeemed with her help. By touching hands, however, Ren experienced a vision of his own and thereby discerned the truth of Rey's father and mother: they were no one, merely a pair of junk traders who sold their daughter for drinking money before ultimately dying and being buried in a pauper's grave in the Jakku desert. This discovery convinced Ren that Rey would turn to the dark side and stand with him as they moved to confront his master together.
Ren's emotions were fully open to Rey, who could feel that his conflict had grown worse since he killed his father. Clinging to the good she sensed within Ren, she reached out to the former Ben Solo and revealed her conviction in the vision she had when they touched hands through the Force. Solo was not fated to continue bowing before Snoke. Redemption was his destiny; of that Rey was certain. Ren, however, revealed that he also beheld a vision that convinced him it would be Rey who turned, because he now knew the truth behind Rey's parentage. Just before they entered the throne room where the Supreme Leader awaited their arrival, Rey sensed that much of Ren's churning emotions were about her. Snoke, who proclaimed that his faith in Ren had been restored, began appraising Rey, who remained defiant in spite of her inability to resist the dark master's Force powers. Although Rey remained certain that Ren would turn, her mental defenses began to crumble when Snoke revealed that he had been responsible for the intermittent connections she experienced with the Supreme Leader's apprentice, a revelation which came as a shock to Ren as well. It had all been a plot to draw Rey, the means to find Luke Skywalker, right into Snoke's hands. Nevertheless, Ren remained silent as Rey screamed, trying in vain to stop Snoke from invading her mind. Upon discovering Skywalker's location, Snoke planned to wipe him out from above as soon as the more immediate enemy had been dealt with. Rey summoned Skywalker's lightsaber to her hand, only for Snoke to redirect the hilt onto her head; Ren, eyes shut, merely tilted his head to the right to avoid being struck by the flying object. The Supreme Leader revealed through his oculus the Resistance being picked off one by one as they tried to flee aboard transports for safety. All that Ren's mother had fought for would be destroyed by the Supremacy's guns. In response, an enraged Rey pulled Ren's lightsaber into her hands and charged at Snoke, who effortlessly overpowered her. Ren watched the lightsaber fall out of Rey's grip and shut off, sliding on the floor back to its owner's feet.
With the First Order ruling the galaxy, Supreme Leader Ren's reign seemed unchallenged but during this time a mysterious transmission was broadcast into the galaxy that was seemingly from the deceased Emperor Palpatine. This served as a threat to Kylo Ren who sought to hunt down this phantom and eliminate them. Ultimately, he tracking a clue to the world of Mustafar where he massacred cultists that resided on there before finding a tomb that contained a Sith Wayfinder. He plugged into the navigation feed from the relic that took him into the Unknown Regions to the hidden world of Exegol. Deep within that world, he sought to murder the person that would challenge his rule of the galaxy. It was then that he discovered that Palpatine was indeed alive on the planet and had amassed a mighty armada in secret with this being known as the Final Order. He offered this army to Kylo Ren and to even make the young man the new emperor of the galaxy where Palpatine tasked the Supreme Leader with hunting down Rey.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Ben Solo was a male human who was very tall where he had a slender and muscular form that had pale skin. He had dark curly long black hair and brown eyes. After falling to the Dark Side, he came to take a new identity where he went by Kylo Ren.
Supreme Leader Snoke came to see much potential in Ben Solo with his raw untapped power and bloodline that meant he could become a new Darth Vader.
When Solo turned away from the Jedi path, he no longer felt obliged to hold back his power. He embraced his conviction that he was more powerful than any of Skywalker's other apprentices, individually or collectively, and even Skywalker himself. As far as he was concerned, the notion that the others were his equal was a lie.
Though turning to the Dark Side, he was noted to still experience a pull towards the Light. This saw him often consulting the ruined mask of his grandfather Darth Vader for guidance. Kylo Ren often asked to be shown the power of the Dark Side so that he could commit himself back to that path and to finish what his grandfather had started in his life.
The betrayal and pain he had experience led to him being driven to destroy his past. He believed that the past needed to die as that was the only way one could become what they were meant to be in life. It was this that led to him murdering his own father though he came to be haunted by the deed.
Upon becoming Ben Solo again, his personality experienced a drastic change where he became more relaxed and showed his emotions more openly.
His father's golden dice was a favourite toy of Ben when he was a child.
Ben Solo was the son of noted smuggler and Rebel hero Han Solo whilst his mother was Leia Organa-Solo who had been the Princess of Alderaan. He had an uncle in Luke Skywalker who became the last Jedi Master that was set to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ben was also the grandson of Darth Vader through his mothers side.
Powers and abilities
Though a human, he was a Force-sensitive allowing him to manipulate that energy field to achieve various feats. Part of his power was said to stem from his powerful bloodline which made him something truly special. He was said to have had a amazingly strong connection to the Force and was gifted with raw strength where he was described as a prodigy while training under his uncle. Initially, Ben Solo underwent training to be a Jedi until he came to abandon the nascent order. As Kylo Ren, he was neither Jedi nor Sith but rather a product of both sides’ teachings. Despite his strength, he was untrained where he had raw and untamed power.
Using the Dark Side, he could use telekinesis that he often wielded to hold his foes in place or even choke them to death. A unique aspect of Force manipulation he was capable of accomplishing was freezing time in certain locations. When a blaster was fired at him, Kylo managed to freeze the bolt in mid air leaving suspended in its tracks. After he departed the area, the bolt resumed its course and struck rocks instead of him.
Ben came to have a mysterious connection with Rey and shared a Force link with one another. This stemmed from them being a Force dyad which was a unique and very rare kind of bond in which the Force-users remained connected regardless of distance through the Force.
He had crafted his own unique lightsaber that generated a red blade with smaller energy protrusions emerging from the hilt. The crossguard lightsaber was an ancient design that had been used millennia ago during the Great Scourge of Malachor. These blades generated were also known as quillons and emerged from focusing crystal activators that split the ligtsaber plasma stream into three channels with the sabres appearing after the main blade was ignited. The crossguard blades allowed Ren to operate the saber safely even though his weapon was constructed around a dangerously flawed kyber crystal that could be overloaded if not for the lateral plasma vents that created the quillons. Kylo Ren was shown to be skilled in its use as he was able to battle the ranks of the Praetorian Guard.
A skilled pilot, he was shown to be capable of expertly flying a number of craft. Initially, he came to fly a TIE vendetta space superiority fighter that he wielded excellently in battle. He was later shown to had flown a TIE whisper that was part of the First Order TIE line interceptor.
In addition, he was the Master of the Knights of Ren that consisted of skilled warriors. Initially, he came to serve as a high ranking commander and personal enforcer in the First Order. After killing Snoke, he took over as the Supreme Leader of the First Order.
