Professor Hackle
Once, this kindly old inventor worked at Puma-Dyne, where he designed countless destructive weapons for the Enforcers. As he grew older, Professor Hackle began to worry how history would view him. Not wanting to be remembered for his destructive inventions, he became a pacifist and started to design machines and robots to help katkind. Puma-Dyne, however, continued to turn his creations into weapons against his wishes. Disgusted, Hackle resigned from the company and retired to his modest house near the beach.
An undetermined amount of time later, the bodies of Mac and Molly Mange washed ashore near his home. Not knowing that they were gangsters, he took them into his at-home lab and transferred their minds into robot bodies. Hackle intended to present the two of them to the scientific academy as proof that he could create something worthwhile, citing that many great minds would be saved by the form of mind transfer he had invented. However, as soon as Hackle had left the room, the Metallikats stole all of the weapons that Hackle had kept on display, as well as a huge armored hovercraft they dubbed the Metallikat Express. They attempted to kill Mayor Manx - and then Deputy Mayor Briggs - but were stopped by the Swat Kats, who destroyed their bodies. The broken parts and still-functional heads were then returned to Hackle, who took them back to his lab so that he could rebuild them and program out all their criminal tendencies, and make them peaceful servants.
Just as he was about to begin, he saw something that shocked him. On a TV news broadcast covering the defeat of Hard Drive at Puma-Dyne, Hackle noticed in one of the buildings blown open by Hard Drive's destruction two giant Macrobots. He had originally designed them for MASA, but Puma-Dyne opted to turn them into walking war machines - which is one of the principal reasons Hackle retired. Angry that they had actually been built for war purposes, Hackle stormed from the lab to call Puma-Dyne and complain. While he was gone, Mac and Molly managed to escape the lab and steal Hackle's pickup truck, speeding off into Megakat City to cause more trouble. This time, they managed to get control of the Macrobots from Puma-Dyne, and started to wreck the city, In order to stop them, Hackle gave to Commander Feral a Neural Neutralizer, a special ray gun that could deactivate the Metallikats. The Swat Kats destroyed the Macrobots in a fierce battle, and Feral was able to successfully deactivate the Metallikats despite their offer of valuable information in exchange for their freedom.
This time, however, the Metallikats were not returned to Hackle's custody. They were taken away by the Enforcers, tagged, and kept in an evidence locker at Enforcer Headquarters.
One dark night, Professor Hackle summoned the Swat Kats to his lab, and told them he wished to do something to thank them for having stopped the Metallikats. He presented them with Cybertron, a robot prototype designed to protect and serve katkind. Although the Swat Kats were initially reluctant to accept the gift - particularly T-Bone - they eventually warmed up to the little robot when he saved their lives in battle against the giant mummies of Katchu Pitchu. Sadly, Cybertron was destroyed in the ensuing conflict, and it would take years for Hackle to properly repair him. However, Hackle revealed to the Swat Kats that he had already created another, bigger robot prototype to give to them in the event of Cybertron's destruction. They more or less politely declined to accept, needless to say.
In the future, Hackle's research would continue. He would eventually succeed in creating several katlike servant robots that would do much of the work in Megakat City, and which were controlled by a Central Robot Control Matrix. During this time, he was also apparently given ample funding by Mayor Manx and was able to have a bigger lab. Hackle also had the heads of the Metallikats returned to him, so that he could try to reprogram them to be good once again. His dreams were dashed with the arrival of the Pastmaster, who revived and rebuilt Mac and Molly. He helped them link into the Central Robot Control Matrix, and reprogram all of the city's worker robots to do evil. The Metallikats' Metallitack Units soon began to round up all non-robotic life forms in the city, to be confined to slave labor camps. A much-older Professor Hackle was among those who managed to escape and hide in Megakat Swamp. All Hackle had to do to save the city was reprogram the Control Matrix, but no one could get inside the heavily fortified Metallikat Headquarters to do so, especially since the Swat Kats had been killed by the Metallikats' forces years prior.
Luckily, the Pastmaster brought the Swat Kats from the past into the future so that he could gloat to his old enemies before stranding them there, but his plans went awry when the Metallikats pulled a double-cross on him. Evading the numerous Metallitack Units, the Swat Kats crash-landed in the swamp, where they met Hackle and the other rebels. Using his technical know-how, Professor Hackle helped the Swat Kats repair the damaged Turbokat. Combining their strength, the forces of good were able to infiltrate Metallikat Headquarters - with some help from the Pastmaster, eager for revenge against Mac and Molly for their betrayal. With the Metallikats on the run from their enemies, Professor Hackle was able to get to the Central Robot Control Matrix. He successfully reprogrammed all the city's robots to do good again, and they helped to capture the fleeing Metallikats. Peace returned to Megakat City once again.
