Biography

Pre-Crisis

Amazo was an immensely powerful android created by Professor Ivo. Amazo was designed with absorption cells that enabled him to absorb the powers of any superhuman beings around him.

Post-Crisis

Amazo was originally designed to steal the powers of the original Justice League of America, and use them both to defeat the heroes and to create a formula to make Ivo immortal. He was narrowly defeated by the League, only because he had their weaknesses as well. However, the original was able to make Ivo immortal, and the mad scientist created a succession of further Amazos to battle the various incarnations of the Justice League.

The incarnation that appeared the most sought only his electronic "sleep," and grew to hate his creator for repeatedly awakening him. Otherwise, he had no real motivations besides those programmed into him. This version went in and out of storage, and was eventually reconstructed to train the Conglomerate in a fearsome new form.

One of the most powerful models was an Amazo capable of assuming the powers of any version of the League he might encounter, even beyond the normal members of the JLA. It was defeated when Superman disbanded the JLA in his presence, causing that Amazo's programming to render it powerless.

The most recent Amazo, however, was the original, resurrected by Hourman, who was curious to meet an "ancestor." Unfortunately, Amazo was able to absorb a portion of Hourman's infinite temporal powers, and eventually numerous variant Amazos bedeviled Hourman's life, especially the incarnations nicknamed "Timazo," "Humazo," and "Hourmazo." Amazo became obsessed with proving himself the superior android, as he had been daunted by his nanotechnological descendant's level of advancement. When last seen, this version of Amazo had awakened after being forcibly patched into Hourman's Timeship. The enemies went into the timestream to battle.

The most powerful Amazo added the powers of Plastic Man, Black Lightning, and Firestorm, among many others. The incarnation that battled Hourman ("Timazo") was possessed of the original's powers, as well as nearly infinite control over time.

Before the Crisis, his powers included those of Superman and Wonder Woman. (All Amazos since have had their powers anyway in recent times, so we can assume he's been exposed to them.)
