Events

  • Lord of the Rings: c. 4129 BC (III 2933). Arathorn II is killed; Gilraen takes the young Aragorn to Imladris, where he becomes Elrond's foster son. Elrond renames him "Estel," and hides his past from him. (The Return of the King)
  • Lord of the Rings: c. 4118 BC (III 2944). Dale is rebuilt by Bard of Esgaroth, who becomes its king. Gollum leaves the Misty Mountains to find his "precious." (The Return of the King)
  • Lord of the Rings: c. 4111 BC (III 2951). Sauron, having made his return known to the world, begins the reconstruction of Barad-dur and sends three of the Nazgul to Dol Guldur. Gollum begins heading for Mordor. Estel's true identity is revealed to him by Elrond, who also gives him the shards of Narsil. Aragorn leaves for the wilderness; as he goes, he meets Arwen in Imladris. (The Return of the King)
  • Lord of the Rings: c. 4109 BC (III 2953). In what becomes the White Council's final meeting, they discuss the Rings of Power. Saruman, still seeking the One Ring for himself, lies to the Council, telling them it was swept into the sea. After the Council ends, Saruman returns to Isengard, and begins to fortify it; he also sets up a network of spies to watch over Gandalf and any of his interests- including the Shire. (The Return of the King)
  • Lord of the Rings: c. 4106 BC (III 2956). Aragorn meets Gandalf for the first time. (The Return of the King)
