Each OMAC unit has archives on almost every metahuman on the planet. Their eye contains scanners to distinguish metahumans from civilians and analyze their powers. They can simulate various powers depending on the weaknesses of their opponents. OMACs have demonstrated flight, fire manipulation, production of flame-retarding foam, and the ability to project various energy bursts from their eye and hands for different effects (concussive, caustic, and blinding among others). Individuals have produced artificial cellulose from their bodies to fight Alan Scott, and disabled the Eradicator with little effort; they have also demonstrated the ability to simulate Shazam's lightning, and used it to force Mary Marvel back into her human form. History

The OMAC Project

The Omni Mind and Community (O.M.A.C.) were cyborgs under the control of Brother Eye that were created through the use of virus that was derived from B-13 derived nanotechnology system taken from the United States Department of Defense and Lexcorp. (The OMAC Project v1 #6)

It was suspected that the O.M.A.C. strain was spread by covert means through standard vaccination vectors. (The OMAC Project v1 #6)

When Maxwell Lord brainwashed Superman to kill Batman, Wonder Woman, and possibly the rest of the JLA, Wonder Woman broke Lord's neck to free Superman from his control. (Wonder Woman v2 #219)

Batgirl Cassandra Cain was in Detroit on a quest to find her mother Lady Shiva and found the apartment building that was her last known address. She showed a picture of Shiva to an elderly neighbor, hoping she’d recognize her. Verraco, a metahuman Cassandra had tussled with earlier in a biker bar had followed her to Detroit wanting a rematch. They fought across the neighborhood, and an enraged Verraco threw a car at Cassandra. She ducked, but the car hit the old woman. The woman turned out to be an OMAC, and quickly neutalized Verraco before flying off with him. Cassandra was intrigued by what had just happened, but was focused on continuing her quest. (Batgirl v1 #66)

An OMAC attacked the JSA outside of a NYC courthouse, and almost killed them before Atom-Smasher drove the OMAC off. (JSA v1 #76)

The OMACs fought an army of demons unleashed on Los Angeles by Brother Blood. (Teen Titans v3 #30)

When the JLA investigated a mass murder perpetrated by the Key in Metropolis Brother Eye activated a number of OMACs to destroy them. The OMACs ended up overwhelmed, so Brother Eye commanded them to self-destruct. (JLA v1 #122)

During the final battle with Brother Eye, there were an estimated one point three million OMAC units that were deployed around the world to eliminate the Metahuman Threat as dictated by the deceased Black King of Checkmate. (The OMAC Project v1 #6)

Aftermath

One O.M.A.C. was salvaged by Batman and kept in secret in one of his facilities at Wayne Enterprises for use in emergencies in case where the world's superheroes went rogue. This unit was discovered by Brainiac who initially sent Metallo to recover it but he failed. He would later take control of the Metal Men who were serving as superpowered security for the facility after being hired by Lucius Fox. Once taken, Brainiac would upload himself into this body and seek to improve the O.M.A.C. virus to infect the rest of humanity by first testing it on Helen Garen who was with Will Magnus. However, Batman and Superman intervened whereby the Metal Men turned against Brainiac and the O.M.A.C. empowered Helen helped to destroy Brainiac's O.M.A.C. body. Afterwards, she was cured of the virus and all examples of the technology were seemingly destroyed by Superman. (Superman/Batman v1 #36) Members of Batman's Outsiders were dispatched on a covert mission to Jardine Tower at Central City belonging to Jardine Ltd who had within their possession an O.M.A.C. unit for study. The team were successful in infiltrating the facility but the O.M.A.C. activated where it attacked the heroes though they managed to defeat it. (Batman and the Outsiders v2 #2) It was returned to their base where it was studied by Batman and Francine Langstrom though Hawkgirl arrived from the Justice League as they expressed concerns over the captive of the O.M.A.C. The cyborg managed to break free and attacked the assembled superheroes who managed to defeat it once more. (Batman and the Outsiders v2 #3)

Brother Eye then activated the protocol trigger and unleashed the OMAC virus that began converting humans into OMAC cyborgs. A sufficient number were transformed in the nearby hanger and went to Brother Eye as the artificial intelligence began its upgrade to escape the Command-D bunker. Brother Eye then gathered his army and set forth towards Bludhaven as part of his directive in shepherding the human race. (Countdown v1 #21) Once there, the cyborgs set about gathering resources to further upgrade their master. (Countdown v1 #20)

A group of O.M.A.C.s were dispatched by the resurrected Maxwell Lord where they attacked the new Blue Beetle Jamie Reyes. This attracted the attention of Captain Atom, Booster Gold, Ice and Fire who sought to defeat him. (Justice League: Generation Lost v1 #2) Further O.M.A.C.s were teleported to the site to serve as reinforcements which threatened to overwhelm the heroes until Blue Beetle used magnetism to stop them. The group of superheroes intended to use them as evidence of the existence of Maxwell Lord who had erased his existence from the world except for select individuals. However, a teleportation beam activated that removed the O.M.A.C.s from the scene with Booster Gold ordering his team mates to follow. Despite going through the beam, they had lost the O.M.A.C.s and were instead transported to Russia where they faced the Rocket Red Brigade. (Justice League: Generation Lost v1 #3)

A large of civilians were transformed into an army of O.M.A.C.s in order to deploy them against Wonder Woman. (Justice League: Generation Lost v1 #22) These began searching for the Justice League International to use them to track down Diana. (Justice League: Generation Lost v1 #23) Maxwell Lord was later defeated but publically blamed the resurgent O.M.A.C. incident on Professor Ivo. (Justice League: Generation Lost v1 #24)

In an alternate future caused by Maxwell Lord, the Earth gets devastated by conflicts with one another with gigantic O.M.A.Cs roaming the world. (Justice League: Generation Lost v1 #14)

Overview

In appearance,

An Observational Metahuman Activity Construct was a cybernetic being that were created through nanobyte technology. (Justice League: Generation Lost v1 #3) The primary method of infection was through the OMAC virus. (The OMAC Project v1 #3) This was achieved through a controlled vector exposure by a virus that took the form of nanobots. Their blue skin was actually an external dermal casing that was composed of composite polymer/ceramite/metallic mixture. (The OMAC Project v1 #6) Its metallic composition meant that it was vulnerable to specific forms of magnetism. (Justice League: Generation Lost v1 #3) It was said that they fought using a predictive fighting protocol with them adjusting to their targets and meant that they learnt from their defeats. (Detective Comics v1 #979)

They were composed of a nanobot shell which meant that if one found a way of disrupting communication between the various parts then the O.M.A.C. lost control. (Detective Comics v1 #979) One weakness to these cyborgs was the fact that they were vulnerable to electromagnetic pulses but one of the problems was getting past their shielding. It was believed that only the equivalent of fifty megaton nuclear blasts were able to achieve this feat but such an explosion would not only kill the OMAC host but everyone around them within the blast radius. (The OMAC Project v1 #6)

Once incorporated into an organic host, they became part of the machine and if thee host died then the O.M.A.C. unit was terminated as well. (The OMAC Project v1 #6) This allowed for innocent beings to transformed into such cyborgs where they remained as humans until they were activated and transformed into their O.M.A.C. forms. (Justice League: Generation Lost v1 #3)

OMACs can shape-shift their limbs into blades and pincers.

The second generation of OMACs also had a scanner fixed in with their eye to identify civilian from meta human, whether this was carried on to the third generation prototype was unknown, as far as the graphic novel led was that he was given a task by his superior and he carried it out, possibly downloading a file to he OMAC with his targets details.

The MKI collective held the ability to copy the technological designs of opposing forces once upon proper study of its functionality. A cloister of OMAC's having once copied the protective capabilities of Paradise Island's masking barrier technology.

  • OMAC Prime : a large prototype advanced model sent by Maxwell Lord to destroy Wonder Woman and members of Justice League International. (Justice League: Generation Lost v1 #23)

Notes

  • The Omni Mind and Community was created by Greg Rucka and Jesus Saiz where they made their first appearance in OMAC Project v1 #1 (June, 2005).
  • They were based off Jack Kirby's O.M.A.C.
  • This incarnation of O.M.A.C. were referred to as the One-Man Army Corps, Omni Mind and Community and as the Observational Metahuman Activity Construct.

Alternate Versions

  • In Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Infinite Crisis v1 #1 (2019), an alternate version of the O.M.A.C. was shown to inhabit a world in the Dark Multiverse. On this Earth, Ted Kord killed Maxwell Lord where he came to use the A.I. to help him stop threats to the world. O.M.A.C.s were used to help end the Rann-Thanagar War and used to neutralise other threats on the planet. However, Brother Eye determined that the greatest danger to the world were its superpowered heroes and convinced Kord to address this threat. Thus, the nanovirus was deployed that began to assimilate superpowered beings and transform them into O.M.A.C.s as Brother Eye took over Ted Kord's body where it took over the planet.

  • In DC Universe Online, OMACs were one of the enemies within the setting. They were created by the rogue AI known as Brother Eye after it decided to target the Metahuman population of Earth. It would release the OMAC virus converting civilians into OMAC units where it started its campaign from Gotham City. These OMACs varied in type from standard OMAC models to OMAC MkII along with Drones. This plan would end when the player characters attacked Brother Eye's lair in the sewers forcing the AI to abandon its body for another one allowing for a quick clean up of the remaining OMACs.
