Gozer the Gozerian in its desired female form.

Gozer the Gozerian was a god worshipped in 6000 BC by various primitive cultures including the Hittites and Sumerians. It was an androgynous, sexless being capable of assuming whatever form it desired. Gozer had many aliases throughout the centuries, including Gozer the Destructor and Gozer the Traveller. A worshipper of Gozer, one Ivo Shandor, conducted rituals on the rooftop of a building located in New York City sometime after World War I, with the intent of bringing Gozer forth into the human realm to destroy it. Gozer had two faithful minions/pets, the Terror Dogs Zuul and Vinz Clortho, whose carnal union in the bodies of chosen human hosts (Dana Barrett and Louis Tully) was to be the tool by which the gateway to the spirit realm would open, allowing Gozer to appear. It’s minions would then transform back into Terror Dogs and take their places beside Gozer.

Zuul and Vinz Clortho stand triumphantly after turning back into Terror Dogs and summoning Gozer.

When Gozer did appear, it was in the form of a beautiful young woman with blood-red eyes and short black hair. She greeted her loyal Terror Dog, Vinz Clortho, and petted him passionately as Zuul looked on. Afterwards, Gozer confronted the Ghostbusters and at first assumed them to be fellow gods. Especially when Ray Stantz ordered the deity to return to its realm of origin. However, when Stantz answered no to Gozer's inquiry, the enraged god electrocuted all four of them with bolts of powerful supernatural lightning from her fingertips, very nearly sending them flying off the roof of the building. Her Terror Dogs watched, growling and roaring in approval. The Ghostbusters proved tenacious foes however, and attempted to capture the god with their particle throwers. However, the nimble Gozer avoided their beams easily and ultimately vanished, manifesting thereafter as a disembodied voice commanding them, "Choose the form of the Destructor!"

Gozer pets Vinz Clortho as Zuul looks on.

Despite having the ability to assume any form it desired, Gozer seemed to take a sadistic pleasure in forcing its victims to choose what shape it would take when it destroyed them. Ray Stantz ultimately chose Mr. Stay Puft, figuring that the jolly children's character would be harmless, only to have Gozer reappear in the form of a 200-foot-tall version of the famous marshmallow man. After terrorizing the gathered crowds of New Yorkers and stepping on a few parked cars (not to mention a church), the marshmallow monstrosity was set alight by the Ghostbusters firing into it with their particle throwers, and the flaming beast then began to climb up the side of the building to get them. Unfortunately for Gozer, by the time it reached the roof, Egon Spengler had already thought of a way to shut the gateway through which Gozer had come, and the resulting explosion completely destroyed the marshmallowy form Gozer had taken, along with her Terror Dogs.

Exactly what became of Gozer after this is unknown. Being a god and thus immortal, it is unlikely that Gozer was permanently destroyed, and instead merely returned to its original realm to await another opportunity to escape into the human world. That opportunity came in the form of the town of Summerville, in the year 2021.
Gozer the Gozerian after being summoned in 2021.
After the late Egon Spengler disconnected himself from the original Ghostbusters, he holed up in an old farmhouse within Summerville and rigged it up as a huge ghost trap in order to trap Gozer in case it ever returned to Earth. One night, the spirits of Zuul and Vinz Clortho were set free and tried to take over Egon's body in order to bring Gozer back. However, Egon was able to ward them off and sacrifice his life in order for the ghost trap to stay intact. However, years later, his grandchild, Phoebe, daughter of Callie Spengler, recovered one of his old ghost traps, which contained the spirit of Vinz Clortho within it. She was unaware of this and brought it to her summer school teacher, Gary Grooberson, who happened to be a huge ghostbusters fan. He and Phoebe opened it, which let to Vinz Clortho bursting out of it in sentinel form. The demon immediately made his way towards the Shandor Mining Company, which was actually a temple for Gozer to be summoned from. Vinz was able to manifest into his Terror Dog form within the temple and possess a male host, which just so happened to be the same man that released him, Gary. Zuul was also released, and she was able to take over Callie Spengler, Phoebe's mom. The two demons found each other in a field near the temple and had sex in their human forms. Later, they regrouped within the Temple of Gozer and stood atop two pedestals next to Gozer's throne. Unbeknownst to them, their possessors children were watching from behind cover. The demons were then struck by supernatural lightning, which allowed them to turn into Terror Dogs. Once they transformed, the dogs made their was up to the top of the temple, where they awaited their master.

Gozer the Gozerian climbed out of the pit of it's army of ghosts. It looked around and surveyed the area, snarling like an animal. Gozer saw its Terror Dogs standing patiently atop the temple, awaiting their master's arrival. Gozer looked up and saw the reanimated Ivo Shandor, staring down at her. He greeted it and explained that he built this temple for it in case it had ever returned to Earth. Gozer stood up and began to caress Ivo's face as he asked it to rule the world with him. Gozer then proceeds to rip Ivo in half and smile. Gozer then approaches Zuul and kneels down beside her, petting her passionately. Zuul purrs and rolls her eyes. The Terror Dogs then leap back down to their pedestals, snarling as they guard Gozer's throne. Gozer smiles at its pets as it leaps down towards its pedestal and sits atop it. Vinz snarls triumphantly. Gozer slumps back in its throne, basking in its victory while the dogs stand guard.

In the script for Ghostbusters, Gozer was originally to have appeared in the form of Ivo Shandor instead of an anonymous woman.
