History
According to ancient legend, at the beginning of time the beings that were the Elder Gods were at war with the One Being with the latter feeding of their essences in the void. In those times, six of the Elder Gods forged the Kamidogu who used them to split the One Being's essence thus creating the Realms. With their victory secured, the Elder Gods made use of sorcerers to connect the realms with one another through the magical portals.
At some distant point after the creation of the ralms, the Elder Gods discovered that the numerous kombatants and champions that were appearing through the realms had a destabilizing effect that would lead to Armageddon. Thus, they turned to the Protector god of Edenia and trusted him with the task of preventing this fate.
The Elder Gods ranks were consumed by conflict among their own when the god of Earthrealm, Shinnok attempted to gain dominion over all life. It was only through the efforts of Raiden that they were able to defeat him and his armies. Shinnok himself was captured and banished to the Netherrealm where he was to be chained for all of time.
The elder Sub-Zero was dispatched by the sorceror Quan Chi to retrieve the amulet from the temple where he battled with its guardians and defeated them. Years later, the younger Sub-Zero attempted to make peace with the guardians only to discover that they were gone.
Most of the Elder Gods were slain when Shinnok had risen as the lord of the Nether Realm and began his war against Heaven itself. Those that survived were then responsible for ascending Raiden to the position of Elder God.
When the threat of Onaga seemed to help in the re-establishment of the One Being, the Elder Gods saved Scorpion from destruction in order for him to be their champion. In exchange for his service, he required as payment the resurrection of his clan but instead brought them back as undead hellspawns like Scorpion himself. This resulted in his eternal vengeance against the Elder Gods and their servants.
Overview
The Elder Gods were powerful immortal beings that resided within the Heavens. They rarely interacted with the lower planes except in matters that endangered all of existence.
