The Crime Master is the name of several characters in the Marvel Universe.

Crime Master (Nicholas Lewis Sr. "Lucky Lewis")

Nick 'Lucky' Lewis was a male human who came to work as a reporter at the Daily Bugle and secretly operated as a crime lord where he first created the masked persona of the Crime Master. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #27)

Escaping to a nearby rooftop, he spied on Foswell with Spider-Man and J. Jonah Jameson in the latter's office. Lewis looked to eliminate all three in one guy but was ambushed by the police who were waiting for him after being tipped off on the Crime Master. Not wanting to be taken in, he pulled out a gun to fire but was shot instead and fatally killed. He intended to have the last laugh and looked to reveal the true identity of the Green Goblin but died before he could do so. The authorities then went to Jameson's office to reveal that it was Nick Lewis who had operated as the Crime Master all this time thus clearing Foswell of any suspicion. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #27)

Crime Master (Nicholas Lewis Jr.)

Nick Lewis Junior was the son of Nick Lewis Senior who was the original Crime Master who died when he was caught by the police. After his father's death, he came to swear to avenge him and looked to eliminate Spider-Man. He was in private school in Europe when he met Janice Foswell where the two fell in love where she was the daughter of the Big Man who similarly had been killed in his fight against Spider-Man. Unknown to her, Nick Lewis Jr. came to adopt the masked persona of the Crime Master and embarked on his scheme of revenge against the Wall-Crawler. (Marvel Team-Up v1 #40)

Crime Master (Bennett Brant)

The Crime Master came to acquire the Toxin Symbiote that he kept among his acquisitions. He then set about assembling a team of supervillains where their meeting was interrupted by an assassination attempt by Agent Venom. Thompsons attempt to kill the Crime Master was disrupted by Eddie Brock who was looking to eliminate all Symbiotes in the world. Crime Masters group of supervillains then forced Agent Venom to flee with Brock later being captured. It was then that the Crime Master decided on his final member of the Savage Six by forcing Toxin to bond with Eddie Brock where he had his team of supervillains being sent forth to hunt down Agent Venom. (Venom v2 #17)

Crime Master (Imposter)

An unknown person who used to work for the Maggia until after the death of Bennett Brant came to take the equipment of the Crime-Master that was being was sold by Hobgoblin. He fought against Superior Spider-Man when Agent Venom arrived at the scene leading to the Crime Master quickly surrendering. (Superior Spider-Man v1 #22)

Crime Master (Inner Demon)

An unknown person who was a member of the Inner Demons. Mister Negative had one of his agents impersonate the Crime Master. (Amazing Spider-Man v3 #19.1)

Notes

  • The concept of the Crime Master was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko where it made its first appearance in Amazing Spider-Man v1 #26 (July, 1965).

Alternate Versions

  • In Spider-Man Noir: Eyes Without a Face v1 #1 (2009), an alternate version of Crime Master appeared in the Marvel Noir reality that was designated as Earth-90214 in the Multiverse. Sammy was affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan and the Friends of New Germany, which the chairman, Josef Ansell of the later organization made him the masked villain to undermine criminal society in New York City in secretly abducting African-Americans to be experimented in Dr. Otto Octavius' experiments. Crime Master was known for his violent and ruthless reputation against anyone who are against him, in which he even personally knife his victims.

In other media

Video games

  • In Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, the Noir version of the Crime Master was referenced in the setting of the video game. This version seems to be an enforcer working for Hammerhead as mentioned by the Vulture's henchmen. On his orders, he killed Fancy Dan and put him in a garbage can due to him flirting with Hammerhead's girlfriend Janice Foswell.
