Android 16

Android 16 is an robotic anime and manga character who features in Dragon Ball Z.

Biography

Android 16 (Japanese: 人造人間16号, Jinzōningen Jū Roku Gō, lit. "Artificial Human #16") (May 12, 767 - May 26, 767) was a completely artificial android constructed by Dr. Gero. Android 16 was Gero's most powerful android, designed specifically for no purpose but the destruction of Goku. However, 16 was awakened prematurely by Android 17 and 18, before his programming could be completed. As a result, 16 was powerful but passive, knowing only that his purpose was Goku's death. 17 and 18 took him with them when they left to find Goku.

16 simply tagged along, displaying an advanced ability to read other beings' power levels, but otherwise doing little- until Cell came on the scene. Realizing Cell meant to absorb 17 and 18, 16 battled the super-warrior, displaying awesome power in the process. In addition, Cell learned he could not absorb 16's bio-extract, as he had none to drain. Unfortunately, Cell ultimately used trickery to absorb Android 17, ascending to his second stage. Cell's first act was to blast 16 through the side of his head, badly damaging him. Android 16 urged 18 to run, and she took him with her. Hiding on an island, 16 was intrigued by nature, including various small animals that clustered around him. Unfortunately, Cell tracked them down, and neither 16 nor Krillin could stop him from absorbing Android 18 and becoming perfect.

Android 16 was taken to the Capsule Corporation, where he was rebuilt by Bulma and her father Dr. Briefs In the process, they learned 16 was equipped with a powerful bomb, enabling him to unleash a massive explosion in the event of his defeat. Worried that 16 might still choose to attack Goku, they removed the bomb.

When the Cell Games began, 16 was there, informing Goku that he no longer had any desire to kill him. He remained a witness to Goku's ferocious battle with Cell. However, after Gohan stepped in to battle Cell and began to lose, Android 16 intervened, and tried to use his bomb to destroy Cell. Unfortunately, since it was removed, 16 could not hurt the perfect warrior, who casually blasted him to pieces.

Reduced to a head, 16 urged Hercule to throw him to Gohan. Mustering his courage, the "world's champion" did so. 16 talked to Gohan about the fact that he understood him- 16 and Gohan were both beings who desired peace- but that he needed to stop holding back and defeat Cell. As if to punctuate the point, Cell crushed 16's head, destroying him forever.

Overview

Powers and abilities

He was programmed by Dr. Gero to kill Goku with Android 16 containing all relevant information on his target. This included his address, fighting style and a list of his techniques that were deemed vital for the completion of his mission.

Android 16's only significant attacks were Hell's Flash and a rocket punch (firing his fist at opponents).

Located within his chest was a suicide bomb that was intended as his final trump card against his intended target. The intention was for the android to grab his quarry then trigger the self-destruct mechanism in order to destroy himself along with his foe.
