Biography

Original Timeline

Reptile was a male Sauria who was originally an inhabitant of the realm of Zaterra that came to be conquered by Outworld. In time, Reptile came into the service of the Emperor Shao Kahn but was unaware of the fact that the warlord was responsible for destroying his home realm. His race was thought to had been extinct millions of years ago.

During the second Mortal Kombat Tournament, Reptile operated as Shang Tsung's personal protector and lurked in the shadows to ensure none harmed his master. He entered the contest in the hope of defeating all his opponents and protect his master. He then went on to receive special missions from Shao Kahn himself, who had promised to release the remaining members of his race from slavery if he would unquestioningly do his bidding.

Afterwards, in the invasion of Earth, he was chosen to assist Jade in the capture of Princess Kitana. In contrast with Jade's instructions, Reptile was ordered to stop the renegade princess at all costs even if it meant her death. An opportunity arose when Kitana had escaped into the unknown regions of Earthrealm during Kahn's invasion of that world. Reptile was sent by Shao Kahn, who promised Reptile to resurrect his race if he succeeded, with Jade to find and, if necessary, kill Kitana. He did not succeed as Jade betrayed him to help Kitana. After the war was over, with Kahn defeated and both Earth and Edenia free, Reptile was brought back as a prisoner to Edenia, and tried there for genocide, a bitter irony since his own race once was the victim of the very same act.

Following Kahn's defeat, the fallen Elder God Shinnok arose from the Netherrealm and waged war against the other realms. In this time, Reptile had been banished to the Netherrealm due to committing genocide against several species and had been responsible for killing millions. He later served Shinnok and operated as a General in his Army of Darkness. This was with the hope of convincing Shinnok to revive his near extinct race. After being on the losing side once more, he escaped into Outworld again and re-joined his old masters, in spite of the fact that neither had ever kept their promises towards him.

Due to his state of separation from the other members of his race and especially his matriarch, Reptile had begun to show signs of devolution. Where he used to mask his appearance by posing as a human, this proved to be no longer possible. Reptile had nearly gone insane and had a significantly changed in appearance, including bare feet and a tail. With the armies of Edenia and Outworld locked in combat, Shao Kahn requested the services of the sorcerer Shang Tsung. Reptile was sent to tell Tsung of the emperor's request but upon reaching Shang Tsung’s new place of residence since being released from prison, Reptile overheard Tsung and Quan Chi forming their alliance and plotting to kill Shao Kahn. On his way back to inform his master, he was distracted by Nitara, who revealed to him knowledge of his lost civilization. She gave him the Kirehashi blade, which was an artifact of the Zaterran civilization, as proof and revealed to Reptile the location of Kitana’s forces. Reptile knowing how this knowledge would greatly aid his master in the war with Edenia raced back to tell the emperor, but he was too late; Shao Kahn lay slain on the floor.

After realising the deception, the enraged Reptile tracked down Nitara and Cyrax to the Lava Shrine but found that he was too late as the portal sphere had been destroyed with the two not in sight. Once there, he found the dragon egg of Onaga the Dragon King which hatched where a beam of light struck Reptile. This caused his body to be used as a vessel for a reincarnated Onaga.

Reboot Timeline

During the Armageddon, Shao Kahn ultimately won where all of creation faced destruction but during the last moments of Raiden he managed to his past experiences back to his younger self. This created a change in the timeline as the younger Raiden was guided by the scattered visions of the future where he sought to avert this dark future. Similar to the old timeline, he came to the last known surviving member of his race after his home realm of Zaterra was destroyed. He came to make Outworld his home where Shao Kahn came to use Reptile's talents as a spy in the empire.

Afterwards, Reptile came to take part in the tenth Mortal Kombat Tournament between Outworld and Earthrealm. In the first match, he came to face off against Johnny Cage but was defeat in their fight. Ultimately, Outworld came to lose the tournament with Reptile being alongside Baraka and Kitana as they brought Shang Tsung to the Emperor Shao Kahn to stand trial for his failure. It was then decided that another tournament would be held in Outworld with Reptile being by Shang Tsung's side. He was next in the Living Forest where Kano and Shang Tsung made a deal with the Black Dragon providing firearms to the forces of Outworld. Smoke came to interrupt the exchange where after dealing with Kano he came to face both Shang Tsung and Reptile though both were defeated by the Lin Kuei warrior. The younger Sub-Zero who was at the scene was looking to get revenge against Scorpion for the death of his brother but had to fight Reptile where he managed to defeat the Raptor ninja. Later on, Outworld came to lose the tournament but this simply prompted Shao Kahn in staging an invasion of Earthrealm with Reptile being among the invading forces. He came to climb a building where he encountered police officers Kurtis Stryker and Kabal on the roof where he dodged bullet whilst spitting out acid on the latter incapacitating him.

Five years ago, Reptile seemed to be the first ally to Kotal Kahn, and the two approach D'Vorah asking her to assist them in overthrowing the Empress Mileena. Moments later, Mileena, Ermac, Baraka and several Tarkartan soldiers enter the room and confront the trio, accusing them of treason and sedition. Reptile then reveals to the room that he saw how Mileena was constructed in Shang Tsung's Flesh Pits and is not actually Shao Kahn's daughter, and is therefore not the rightful heir to the throne. Outraged by Reptile's outburst, Mileena orders her men to kill the usurpers. However, Ermac soon betrays Mileena and joins the usurpers. After D'Vorah kills Baraka and the rest defeat the other Tarkartans, Kotal orders Mileena to be locked up and thus begins his reign as the new emperor of Outworld. Reptile, along with Erron Black and Ermac, is next seen investigating the bodies left by D'Vorah after she betrayed Outworld by stealing Shinnok's amulet. Cassie Cage, Jacqui Briggs, Takeda Takahashi, and Kung Jin escaped captivity but are quickly located by Reptile's superior smelling senses. The Earthrealmers begin an ambush, as Cassie and Jacqui fight Erron and Ermac, Takeda begins kombat with Reptile who uses his invisibility to fight him, but Takeda uses his telepathy to locate him before he strikes. Reptile and his comrades are then incapacitated by the Earthrealmers. The three go to Kotal Kahn and report that D'Vorah is gone with the amulet and they believe that she is also working with Earthrealm. Furious with this news, Kahn declares war on Earthrealm and tells his men to ready the army. Kotal Kahn, Reptile, Ermac, Ferra/Torr, and Erron Black then lead dozens of soldiers through a portal to Earthrealm and meet up with the four Earthrealmers who happened to crash land in that area. The Earthrealmers run away from the army and ambush the Outworld Army. Reptile quickly dodges most of the attacks and climbs the trees and pounces on Jacqui. Takeda attempts to stop him, but Reptile ends up spitting his acid in his face, temporarily blinding him. Jacqui breaks free of Reptile's grasp and defeats him. However the Earthrealmers are overrun by the superior number of the Outworld army. Kotal Kahn announces that he shall have their heads as a peace treaty for Shinnok to spare Outworld. All of a sudden, the Lin Kuei led by Sub-Zero attack the army, allowing the four teammates to escape. The fate of Reptile and the rest of his companions is unknown after this, but it is likely that they escaped back to Outworld.

New Era Timeline

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Reptile was a Saurian where he possessed the typical of that race where they were humanoid reptilians. However, he was able to mask this giving him a more human-like appearance.

The knowledge that he might be the last of his race often gnawed on his mind. This led to him being willing to give anything and destroy anyone if it meant bringing back his lost realm. He bided his time until he could find a way to recreate his Raptor people.

Self-pity was said to fuel his aggression as he inflicted suffering and death on others.

It was noted that he was always a reliable servant to Shao Kahn. Despite that, he was said to be a dangerous ally to the forces of evil. Initially, he was assigned as the personal protector to Shang Tsung and lurked in the shadows to ensure no harm was made to his master. It was his mastery of stealth that made him an ideal spy where he could root out suspected traitors and slay enemies of the empire.

In Shaolin Monks, Kitana said that Reptile was always in the company of Mileena to the point that the pair were inseparable during combat.

Powers and abilities

As a Saurian, he possessed may of the traits of a member of the reptilian species with the Raptor being a formidable foe. He was shown to possess a long tongue that was strong enough to rip skin of a body. He also possessed a acid spit that he could discharge to burn his target and he could shoot with remarkable accuracy. In some cases, he could shoot out an acid stream instead to badly damage his foe or leave an acid puddle on the ground as a trap for his opponent to step in.

He was able to disguise his horrific reptilian creature and make himself appear in human form. More commonly, Reptile was able to turn himself invisible allowing him to perform sneak attacks against his target.

Another ranged attack was a Slow Force Ball whereby he create a slow moving green ball of energy that headed to the target. Upon striking, it caused his opponent to be pulled in Reptile's direction and brought them closer for him to follow up with another attack.
