Origin

Robert Queen

One account claimed that Robert Queen was a naval officer in the Pacific during World War II when he and Moira Queen got married. He later came to found Queen Enterprises where he was the CEO of the company that was responsible for building the Star City Bay Bridge and other structures at the heart of the municipality. Queen was then responsible for expanding the business into the rocket program and provided the composite material for experimental aircraft. (Green Arrow Secret Files and Origins v1 #1) It was said that Patrick Queen exploited the diamond trade and dealt in military weaponry which he used to build Queen Industries. (Green Arrow v4 #1)

One Christmas, he gave his son his first bow and Oliver came to use it where he accidentally killed a rabbit with this event scarring the boy mentally. Several years later, the Queen's decided to go on a safari trip with Oliver being adamant in not going on the journey. Despite his intentions, he was forced to go on the hunting trip where they were accompanied by a guide named Congo Bill. Robert Queen had hoped for Oliver to take part in the hunting trip as a sort of initiation into manhood but his son refused to take an animal's life. Despite his efforts, he could see his son was not ready and sent him back to camp to be with his mother. Whilst there, the camp was attacked by a pride of lions who killed Moira and fatally injured Robert Queen. Oliver Queen managed to survive where he had to use his bow to kill the lead lion but the boy was now an orphan as a result. Congo Bill managed to sent Oliver back to Star City where he came to be cared for by his uncle. The incident had affected Oliver Queen deeply as he felt responsible for the death of his parents. Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new history of events was created leading to a different timeline being formed for various characters.

At an unknown point, he joined the rich cabal known as the Ninth Circle as the Queen family had always held a position in their ranks. This was because of a forebear of the Queens named Robin Queen had been a noted logging and fishing baron that brought order to the city that became Seattle with a crypt holding the remains of the ancient archer. (Green Arrow v6 #25) At Queen Industries, a noted engineer was William Tockman who Robert Queen had fired with it claimed that the company made millions from the work Tockman had done for the corporation. (Green Arrow v6 #7) Around twenty years ago, Queen had a dream of building a train that united the continents with him embarking on an early initiative to make this a reality. He approached the inhabitants of an isolated island with the idea of using it as a maintenance portal but Queen never returned. (Green Arrow v6 #9) However, the Trans-Pacific Railway was built that ran from Shanghai to Seattle that was hailed as among the greatest architectural feat in the world with trains such as the Empire Express travelling miles below the surface. (Green Arrow v6 #10)

Robert Queen learnt of the existence of an ancient talisman known as the Green Arrow. His own father had long sought this artifact and was seeking it when he died. (Green Arrow v5 #23) From his grandfathers vault, he poured through journals in order to find the home of the mysterious Arrow Clan. This led to numerous arguments with his friend and employee Walter Emerson who believed the Arrow Clan was a myth. Emerson instead urged Robert to spent time on his wife Moira and son Oliver. However, Robert continued his search and took a young confidante named Simon Lacroix with him on thus quest. Lacroix was an employee at Queen Industries from a poor background but driven in ways that Robert desired in his son who was a spoilt teenager at the time. (Green Arrow v5 #21)

He desired to become the best archer in the world and thus sought a tutor. Alongside Simon Lacroix, they learnt of an assassin skilled in archery named Shado. This led to them hiring the young woman to target a Yakuza member in Tokyo in order to see her skills in action. The pair confronted the assassin who attacked them until she realize they were not trying to kill her. They told her their goal of both learning from her archery skills and seeking the Green Arrow with Shado being partly aware of that relic from stories her own father said of the artifact. During this time, Robert had an affair with Shado that led to her becoming pregnant with his child and she gave birth to a daughter named Emiko Queen. In addition, Robert, Shado and Simon discovered the Green Arrow as well as learnt of the existence of the Outsiders. The acquisition of the talisman meant that the Arrow Clan of the Outsiders could be formed. However, Simon grew corrupted by the power he could get and seemingly killed Robert Queen for leadership of the Arow Clan. Lacroix took the name Komodo where upon he took Emiko to raise as his own daughter whilst he gave Shado ton Count Vertigo. (Green Arrow v5 #23)

In the aftermath, Emerson hid the nature of Roberts death and search for the Arrow Clan from both Moira and Oliver Queen. (Green Arrow v5 #21)
