Sentinel Prowler

A Sentinel Prowler was a robot that featured in Wolverine and the X-Men.

History

The Sentinel Prowler was a development of the Mutant Restraint Division as part of the Sentinel Program which aimed to develop new Mutant hunting weapons and was developed by Bolivar Trask. It was unveiled to the public by Senator Kelly during a public press conference after his property had been attacked by the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. The machine was intended to be activated and demonstrated to the public so that it would be accepted as a vital tool against the threat posed by Mutants along with the government measures being taken to contain the threat.

Once activated, the Prowler detected the presence of an unregistered Mutant in the crowd. Its attack programming was thus activated and it burst into the audience, scaring them despite the MRD attempts at remotely shutting it down. The machine chased the mutant down the alleyways and easily destroyed her attempts at blocking its path after which it used its blasters to destroy the entrance of a tunnel that Rogue was attempting to escape through. With her in its sights, this early Sentinel was attacked by Angel who dropped a large rock on it after which he attempted to fly Rogue away. The Prowler combated this threat immediately and shot Worthington from the sky but he along with Rogue were saved by Beast.

The Sentinel Prowler attempted to deal with these multiple Mutant threats but was attacked by Wolverine who slashed its upper protective armour. It attempted to respond but shooting him with its tail blasters but he redirected the shot into the damaged armour which destroyed the Sentinel's internal mechanisms. The disaster of its first public demonstration left doubt in Senator Kelly's mind over Bolivar Trask's usefulness.

A number of Prowler units were later activated in an MRD facility in order to deal with Wolverine and Gambit who had infiltrated the base. All of these destroyed were destroyed by the two Mutants.

Background

The Prowler shared the same external skin as the latter Sentinels being a purple coloured alloy shaped in the form of a scorpion-like war machine. Its insectile nature meant that it walked on four legs, had two arms one of which was a clawed one whilst the other had a heavy blaster near the head which contained three receptors for gazing through its environment and had a tail that held two blasters. This early Sentinel model was the size of a car and was quite mobile through its environment.

Its software included the latest Mutant detection protocols allowing it to gaze into an audience and determine Mutants who were unregistered which activated its tactical programming. The Prowler's intelligence allowed it to take the environment into account and even lay traps by using its weaponry to block any exists for its prey to escape through. The machine was capable of being activated through wrist computers on MRD personnel. However, once it registered the presence of a Mutant, the machine went on attack mode and was incapable of being shut down.
