Broly (ブロリー Burorī) was the Legendary Super Saiyan, and one of the greatest threats ever battled by the Z Warriors. Broly was the son of Paragus, born with a power level of 10,000. While he was in the nursery, Broly was tormented by the perpetual bawling of young Kakarot, later known as Goku. Since Saiyans have an obsessive need to destroy anything that frightens them, Broly developed a pathological hatred of Goku that lasted well into adulthood. King Vegeta, fearing (rightly so) that Broly would become a threat, ordered the baby's execution soon before he left to confront Frieza. Paragus saved his son, and when Planet Vegeta was destroyed, his son's power in turn saved him.

They wandered the universe, as Broly's unnatural power grew, and the child grew into a destructive monster. After Broly destroyed one of his father's eyes, Paragus had a control device created that enabled him to use Broly as a pawn. Broly spent several years under the domination of his father, as a weapon that enabled Paragus to rule many species and further his own plans.

Eventually, however, Paragus initiated his plan to conquer Earth, leading Broly to meet Goku. His madness and hatred for Kakarot enabled Broly to shatter his father's control. Thus freed, he began a rampage, attacking Goku and his friends in his fully-powered Legendary Super Saiyan form. After killing his father (who tried to escape), casually destroying the planet Shamo, and beating Goku, Vegeta, Trunks, Gohan, and Piccolo within an inch of their lives, Broly was finally defeated when the other Z Warriors gave their power to Goku. The super-energized Super Saiyan was able to apparently destroy Broly, but in actuality, he went into a sort of comatose state, healing and increasing in power.

Seven years later, Broly landed on Earth, and battled an older Gohan. Despite having achieved the Super Saiyan 2 level, Gohan was no match for Broly. It took a triple Kamehameha from Gohan, Goten, and a temporarily resurrected Goku to defeat the Legendary Super Saiyan, apparently once and for all.

Comments

It's hard to say whether Broly's really dead- after all, he didn't appear to be in Hell (HFIL) in subsequent films, and such a powerful being as Broly would certainly be noticed in that realm (and in the two escapes that followed).
