Biography
Origin
Kl'rt
Whilst serving as a warrior, he was noted for being instrumental in a victory at the Battle of Harkoon. Upon his return, he was rewarded for his achievement by becoming betrothed to a countess who bore him a son named Sarnogg. (Annihilation: Super-Skrull v1 #3) From the mating, he also gained a daughter by the name of Jazinda. (She-Hulk v2 #32) This was in addition to his son with him caring deeply for his offspring. (She-Hulk v2 #33) Despite his care, he desired more a return to the battlefield and thus spent little time with his family on the colony of Zaragz’na. Over time, he began to suffer an increasing number of defeats that outweighed his victories. This resulted in the countess spurning him and leading to his banishment from the colony where he was denied a chance to see his children. (Annihilation: Super-Skrull v1 #3)
Super-Skrull
He was next summoned by the Skrull Emperor Dorrek VII to take part in the Super-Skrull program. This was an effort to create a superpowered agent with the abilities of all the members of the Fantastic Four. With these powers, he was dispatched to Earth in order to defeat the band of heroes and conquer the planet. (Fantastic Four v1 #2)
Kl'rt came to pledge his loyalty to Empress S'ybll as the Kree/Skrull War entered into the next stage of the war. In order to gain an advantage, the Skrulls decided to seek out the Badoon to become allies in the conflict despite their reputation. Upon arriving on their hidden world, the Badoon were revealed to had already allied with the Kree against the Skrull empire. This combined with the fact that the paranoid Badoon attacked anyone that came to their sanctuary world led to open hostilities between the two empires. In desperation, the Super-Skrull was dispatched to enlist the aid of the Silver Surfer though the former Herald had made a vow of neutrality in the war. Kl'rt used subterfuge to hide the fact that the Badoon had allied with the Kree and instead claimed that they were preying on the Skrulls over another matter. Ultimately, the Silver Surfer forced a Badoon fleet to retreat whereupon Empress S'ybll revealed the truth of the matter causing the Herald to depart after realising that him breaking his vow of neutrality meant that Zenn-La was vulnerable to attack from the Kree in retaliation. Annihilation
During the Annihilation War, the fierce Annihilation Wave emerged from their dimension of the Negative Zone in order to invade the positive-matter universe. Their path took them through Skrull space where one of their target worlds was Aks'lo that was once the jewel in the crown of the empire that was a garden world and wildlife sanctuary once enjoyed by the empress along with her trusted advisors. The Super-Skrull along with an army of fellow warriors laid in hiding on the surface where they disguised themselves as vegetation in order to ambush the insectoid Annihilation Wave when they arrived on the surface. The other warriors were massacred but the Super-Skrull put up a fight but was forced to flee when he witnessed the enemy bringing their superweapon known as the Harvester of Sorrows that converted the world into organic mass to be consumed after which it was destroyed. Kl'rt charted the path of the weapon that was heading to the core worlds and towards Zaragz'na which was where his son resided. This saw him rendezvous with the nearest fleet that belonged to the warlord Baroness S'ybak where he petitioned for a fleet to confront the weapon. However, she had no desire to send her forces as she feared she would be weakened and thus become a target of a rival warlord. Kl'rt then asked to be sent alone with a small force of warriors with the Baroness simply scoffing at his request and insulting him based on his previous failures. In a rage, he attacked her and thus became declared a traitor to the empire but he was rescued by a Skrull mechanic R'Kin where the Super-Skrull decided to assemble an army from the ranks of the Negative Zone to defeat the Harvester of Sorrows. To journey to that dimension, he went to Earth where he met with Reed Richards at the Baxter Building and told him of his mission with Mr. Fantastic opening the Negative Zone portal leading to the Skrulls journeying through it to continue their mission. (Annihilation: Super-Skrull v1 #1) Within the Zone, he targeted Annihilation Wave ships in order to find a weakness to the superweapon and came to learn of its creator who was a scientist that served as commandant to a prison asteroid planetoid. The Super-Skrull attacked the facility and captured Hawal whereupon his prisoners attempted to get revenge against their captor. However, Kl'rt refused to allow Hawal to be killed as he had need of him and thus defeated the prisoners led by Praxagora where they swore their allegiance to him. (Annihilation: Super-Skrull v1 #2) This resulted in Kl'rt assembling the prisoners as a small army which he intended to use to strike at the Harvester of Sorrows. Hawal was forced to create a virus to destroy the superweapon and they returned to the positive matter universe to launch their attack as the Annihilation Wave fleet approached Zaragz'na with R'kin volunteering to pilot the missile ship at the living weapon. Super-Skrull and his allies fought the invaders attempting to bid R'kin time but it never occurred with them being captured. They were brought before the Annihilation Wave leader Admiral Salo with it being revealed that R'kin had betrayed Kl'rt to the enemy allowing the Harvvester of Sorrows to destroy the Skrull world. This led to his son Sarnogg being killed and Kl'rt vowing to avenge his child. (Annihilation: Super-Skrull v1 #3)
Kl'rt's body was later brought to the world of Daedalus 5 by Praxagora where he was seemingly deceased at a time when the Annihilation Wave attacked the world. However, he revived and recovered the unconscious bodies of Ronan the Accuser and Firelord thus saving them just in time as Annihilus used the captive Galactus to destroy the world. The Super-Skrull was with the United Front forces gathered by Nova Richard Rider when he was recruited by Ronan to assist him in freeing the Kree empire from the control of House Fiyero. (Annihilation v1 #3)
He later travelled to the restored Sakaar where he recovered the Time Stone with him looking to recover the remaining Infinity Stones so as to remove the humiliation the Skrull Empire had experienced in the cosmos. (Infinity Countdown Prime v1 #1)
A new threat to the Skrull empire emerged from the Cotati who had re-organised themselves into a force that intended to purge the universe of all animal races. This involved them attacking both the Skrull and Kree empires who came to see that they had a common foe that threatened them. Efforts by the Kree Bel-Dann and the Skrull Raksor led to the formation of the Alliance that looked to combat the Cotati. However, they needed a figure that they could rally behind and unite the two races with this ultimately being Hulkling. (Empyre v1 #2) Dorrek VIII was convinced to help end the bloodshed by assuming the mantle of Emperor with the Super-Skrull becoming one of his close advisors. (Lords of Empyre: Emperor Hulkling v1 #1)
With the war over, Emperor Hulkling decided to pass judgement on the Super-Skrull for the death of his foster mother. Kl'rt believing that he had performed his duties was prepared to die but this angered Dorrek VIII who wanted no further bloodshed. Thus, his sentence was for the Super-Skrull to live with the choices he had made and was forbidden from ever taking another life again. Hulkling then transferred him to the diplomatic service where his sentence was to prevent hostilities and search for a peaceful resolution to future conflicts. (Empyre: Aftermath Avengers v1 #1)
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Kl'rt was a male member of the Skrull race where he had distinctive green skin and a large body frame. (Silver Surfer v3 #25) After undergoing an experiment, he gained superpowers where he came to be known as the Super-Skrull. (Fantastic Four v1 #18) He once disguised himself in a human form where he took a supervillain identity of the Invincible Man. (Fantastic Four v1 #32)
Such was his reputation that he came to be known as the mightiest warrior in the universe. (Fantastic Four v1 #18)
It was said that when Jazinda was young that he was proud of her. This changed by the time she reached adulthood where he swore he would kill her if he ever encountered her again. (She-Hulk v2 #32) The reason was because she had broken sacrosanct laws of their race that brought great dishonour to both him and her. However, in reality, it was because he valued his dead son more than his daughter and thus resented her for living whilst he had died. Despite that, he did care for her and loved her but could not admit to doing so. It was for this reason that he ultimately spared her life but wanted a lie to cover up his reasons. (She-Hulk v2 #33)
Powers and abilities
Skrull scientific arts led to him becoming a Super-Skrull where he was given all the abilities of the Fantastic Four. As such, he could stretch his body to great lengths similar to Mr. Fantastic where he could elongate over great distances that he could move to a sea 100 miles away and return in the matter of seconds. Kl'rt was also given the power of the Human Torch where it was said that he could fly faster and maintain his flames for longer. Super-Skrull was shown to be capable of frying the air around a person causing it to turn into black carbon. He could also use fire manipulation to craft weaponry such as a flame scythe or a fiery bow that could shoot flame arrows. An added power was the ability to create an anti-matter fireball that could destroy anything such as the peak of a small mountain. Super-Skrull was also given the abilities of the Thing and in fact surpassed him where he was shown capable of lifting a cosmic generator whose weight exceeded 100 tons. Finally, he had the abilities of the Invisible Woman allowing him to mask his body with invisibility. (Fantastic Four v1 #18)
All these powers were used in conjunction with his own natural shapeshifting abilities. An added ability possessed by him was the power of irresistible hypnotism that he was able to accomplish if he made eye contact with his quarry. With it, he could cause his opponents to be immobilised and unable to move. (Fantastic Four v1 #18)
Initially, much of the Super-Skrull's great strength came as a result of power rays being beamed to him remotely from the the throneworld thus empowering him greatly. Power intensity could be adjusted in order to make him stronger so long as the necessary energy was present. A special jammer could be used to greatly weaken him during this time. (Fantastic Four v1 #18)
